I've been asked to be on a panel discussing Hentai at a convention in the summer. Being an open kinkster, I've been asked to focus on "chips, dips, chains, whips".
Wanted to kick off a discussion thread here, that I could draw from for the talk. Any ideas on cultural significances (Japan students?), or anything else worth mentioning?

I'll be ending the talk with a shibari demo, and possibly something esle, depending if I can arrange to have the panel run to a masked audience.

First of all, I can explain the hentai obsession with tentacles and/or vines. Genitals aren't supposed to be shown, and when they are, they get pixelated or otherwise censored. Modern pixelation makes it easy to figure things out, but that wasn't always the case. So artists would draw tentacles or vines taking advantage of women so they could get around not being easily able to draw penises. At least, that's the reasoning an online friend offered and it makes sense to me.

There's also the straight mans fear of seeing other male genetalia in that situation. a tentacle is not as threatening as another mans penis. I suppose the humiliation element, bordering on forced bestiality, came as a 'bonus'
