In my house:
one male mouse + another (supposedly) male mouse = 8 baby mice (I guess they both weren't male )

In the philisophical sense, based on Socrates's teachings on duality (I think it was duality...) you're absolutely right. Taking multiples of the same object, does not create a new object.

fencerpet,

1984 is the BEST book anyone can read if they want to learn about the mental aspect of Domination. It is a textbook. I have recommended and given this book to many people interested in the lifestyle from either side of the equation. The scene where Smith is being 'educated' to understand that 2+2 can equal 5 or whatever number his Master deems appropriate is the clearest picture of perfect Domination. When Winston Smith 'sees' it possible that 2+2 CAN equal 5 we see perfect submission.

I suggest everyone re-read the book with a lifestyle perspective. Or if you don't have the time to read, the movie, staring Richard Burton as O'Brien the Inner-Party member responsible for Smith's re-education at the Ministry of Love, follows the book very closely.

It's been over 40yrs since i read it. I would love to reread it with a new perspective.

In my book two plus two equals a par (2 shots plus 2 putts on a par 4)

I just love Orwell. Reading it with an eye to the lifestyle or no it's a great read, one of the better dystopian kinds of novels out there (I liked Farenheit 451, as another book along those lines, but Brave New World and Anthem weren't really my cans of spam).

It's funny, I never really thought of it that way until I read this post. But you're totally right, the book is just riddled with aspects of the D/s lifestyle. I especially love that scene where smith sees that 2+2 can equal 5... so powerful. I really should pick it up again. Thanks for the insight mercnbeth!
