I love food, and the stranger it is the more I desire it. I love red meat, game meat, stinky cheeses that are questionable in their coloring. Liver is a specialty that I love to cook. I make a killer goulash out of chicken hearts and gizzards, extra spicy. I like fried chicken legs. Frogs are good too, as well as chocolate covered ants. So...what out of the ordinary foods do you enjoy...or at least could stomach to try?

I have had squid, snake, raw clams and oysters, grubs, eel, shark. Just a few that I enjoy.

Fresh liver's and heart are the only two I have eaten that I will never touch again.

i'm another one that likes to try different foods and if there is something unique on a menu somewhere, i'll order it.  i've had duck, pheasant, squab, venison, buffalo, wild boar, and alligator.  i love pretty much any seafood and will try them all.  i love game meat, love the strong flavor of it.  i think my next one to try might be ostrich.  i've seen some ostrich steaks at the supermarket and they look tastey.

I once had a room-mate from Iran who tried to save us both money by buying "specialty meats" (heart, brains, tongue, etc.) at the grocery store, and then cooking it all. I just couldn't deal, I really could not. Eating those things just made me literally gag.

So - I asked her to take over the house cleaning, and said I would do laundry and cooking and dish-washing instead of our previous "split the duties" arrangement where she did the cooking and grocery shopping.

On the other hand - I think I could eat things like chocolate covered ants, and I'd heard such weird things about Sushi, before I tried it, I was hesitant to do so. But, I absolutely LOVE Sushi now - it's one of my favortie foods.

Ostrich is a strange meat- somewhere between turkey and beef. Try it, it's worth the unique experience- one word of advice, do not overcook it and serve it pink in the center, it tends to get dry really fast.

the following listed might make some sick ...you have been warned

foi gras, duck pate, tripe, ground lamb and goat brains tacos (ex is Mexican), calamari, turtle soup and gator ribs (during the Taste of Chicago), pav bhaji (Indian hot spicy veggie soup), blood pudding and haggis (sometimes it doesn't pay having a Brit aunt) - recently attended a naked sushi party both kinds were served - raw and cooked

Smoked eel ... mmmmmmmmm.  And beef tongue.  So good.

Call me crazy but except for the chocolate covered ants none of those things seem all that weird. It must be my farm family background.

I find the thought of eating blue jello creepier.

LaMspeach -> RE: Interesting things we have eaten... (1/17/2007 3:02:07 PM)

Lengua ( cows tongue) tacos
Menudo - a Mexican stew made from tripe ( i tried it,didnt like it )
squid

I'll try most foods once.

what is weird anyhow? I have eaten rattlesnake (didn't like it much), caviar (HATED it), frog legs (loved them), alligator ( it was ok), shark (delicious)..and so on..

LaTigresse -> RE: Interesting things we have eaten... (1/17/2007 3:30:30 PM)

Tribes in the Amazon eat weird things to me, live slugs and so forthish.

If it has eyes and is still looking at me, I am not eating it. If it is still moving, I am not eating it.

If it is an unnatural colour, example: the blue jello, I am not eating it.

One time when I was a teenager I bought a box of mixed chocolate covered insects--ants, bees, and beetles.  I did eat one of the chocolate-covered bees out of curiousity and could do it again, though I wouldn't go out of my way to do so.  For the most part, being the sadistic little bitch that I was, I mainly enjoyed offering them to other people, then watching their expression when I told them what they were really eating.

I once ate a house fly - well, chewed it anyway. Totally by accident, back in my cycling days.

Like the wasp that stung me till my lips were twice their normal size, this fly flew into my mouth. Unlike the wasp, I didnt notice very quickly. Unlike the wasp, I didnt spit it out - which is how the wasp got stuck to my lip...

House flies taste sort of sweet. Not that I'd recommend them though.
