The volunteers first looked at photographs of four young men wearing neutral expressions and looking directly at the camera.
The men were shown in pairs, and the women had to judge which of the two was the more attractive, apportioning their preference a score on an eight-point scale.
The same faces were shown again to the volunteers. This time, though, the male faces were flanked by a female face -- a woman, shown in profile, who either looked neutrally at the man or smiled at him.
After this, the volunteers took another look at the paired faces, as in the first step of the experiment, and were asked to give another attractiveness rating.
Many of them revised sharply downward their initial grading of the man, by more than 10 percent on average, if his picture had been next to a woman with a neutral expression.
But they sharply revised upwards their grading, finding the man more attractive by an average of at least 15 percent, if the woman looking at him had a smile on her face.
But the reverse held true for men, the researchers found.
Twenty-eight young men volunteers took part in the same experiment -- and their rating of the likeability of the male faces plummeted if the man was being smiled at by a woman.
But if the woman had a neutral look, the rating went up.

So who of you guys is gonna be paying some women to smile at him?

I'm all over this one!

Makes complete sense though, just like taken individuals can be perceived as more attractive than singles, for the mere fact that they're getting more (positive) attention.

Thanks for the post, just proves women are just as messed up as lads, just in different ways, but all is equaly fair and unfair, brillaint and rock fucking stupid.

I once hung out with a film guy doing  a film experiment in which he approached women in the same pub on 2 nights, a friday and then the friday AFTER that, forst nigh wearing glasses and dressed "not that much $", then the next week, contact lenses and higher end clothing.

same club.

two women on the first night that he spoke to over 15 minutes?  same kina women that bitch about a guy not recalling their name or only looking at their "attributes"?  They couldn't get away from him fast enough.

They were back on night 2, when he had no glasses and his clothes said "I got money".

Same 2 chicks spoke to him and flirted for over FORTY MINUTES EACH.

SLAGS.

I responded that looks are not everything, and the it was difficult finding a submissive who was

yes I saw the wink, but I'm older than you and been online long enough to know that winks are often abused in order to "snark", which is to make a slagging/put down comment then add an emoticon just to say "I can get away with this because I added an emoticon".

which you may or may not have been doing, we cannot tell.  That is a pitfall of the net.

Also there is no way to verify how desirable you might be in counterbalance to "nerdy/no $ in pocket" males etc.

So I am not slamming you, but I am flagging (to stay within context of this thread) that what you PRESENT in your profile means nothing RE reality, that there is a discrepancy and wide berth between reality and PERCEIVED reality, which is all about what the OP posted.

I'm a little shocked but i have to agree with you here. I once chatted to a guy in a club, scruffy hair, glasses, not well dressed and cudnt get away fast enough. A few weeks later said guy was in my bed bcos hed smartened up his appearance etc etc. In fact i hadnt even recognised him at first. So i believe you do have a fair point.
However it doesnt make me a slag ..... or does it? [:D]

I agree looks aren't everything but i have to say that i am far more willing to talk in a club or whatever to a guy i consider good looking that i am a guy who i consider not. In a club our first means of gaining opinion of  someone is by how they look and i think everyone does it. Now on the internet all that changes if a person doesnt have a picture. You can only gain opinion by what they type etc. You have the luck of getting to know them as a person rather than by what they look like. Ive heard of singles nights where everyone sits in the dark so you cant see who you are talking to and think they are a great idea. I dont like to be judged for how i look but accept that it happens and nothing will change that.
