<< The first inkling that something wasn’t going according to plan was on my ride from the airport to the makeshift outdoor studio at the Durham courthouse. A different producer called to tell me that although I study both race and gender, they don’t want this show to be about gender. I answered that this woman was brought in as a stripper and is charging that the lacrosse team sexually abused her -- how could this not also be about gender? Yes, yes, yes, she answered, but the show is focusing on race. I know enough by now not to argue with a senior producer an hour before taping, and so I simply agreed. >>

<< When I started to argue with him, CNN producers in the room explained to us all that news media in America are doing their job -- Fox’s right-wing views are balanced by CNN’s left-wing shows. About this time, I know I am in big trouble. >>

<< When I got back to the hotel 30 minutes later, I already had a few emails from enraged men informing me that I am a “bitch dyke,” “dumb feminist” and “nigger lover” who is an embarrassment to the academic profession. By the next day at noon, it was a flood of emails, each one more hateful than the next. After most television appearances I get some hate mail and some support, but never such a consistently negative barrage in such a short time. It is only when I sit down to watch a tape of the show that I understood why everyone was so upset. >>

Lol, well welcome to the boards.
There are worse things to be.  [:D]

Speaking of media, I'm watching dateline sting catching people with the penchant for the truely corrupt (lil ones), and am shocked at some asshole who just called his wife to bring a $30,000 check to bail him out.    I wonder if he couldn't get his kink taken care of for much cheaper with an adult kinky sex worker..   M

While I'll agree with the sentiment that Paula Zahn isn't much of a "journalist", I'd dispute that it had anything to do with a "right-wing media".

Here is another take on Zahn's handling of the Nifong/Durham "rape case":

 Paula Zahn Cracks the Case

Extracts:

None of the panelists appeared aware that the case emerged several weeks before a hotly contested primary in which Nifong needed black votes. Zahn gave no evidence that she understood this issue either.

In a case where we’ve seen copious irresponsible media speculation, Zahn’s Friday program stood out. The CNN personality gave a forum to guests who clearly knew next to nothing about the case, and then allowed them to make misstatements of fact and outrageous comparisons while ignoring the unprecedented event of a DA’s forced recusal because of ethics allegations.

...

Zahn’s most troubling performance came on April 17, when she blandly dismissed Joe Cheshire’s assertion that no assault occurred. Dripping with incredulity, the host wondered how Cheshire could “explain the woman’s injuries, particularly some of the internal injuries.” Zahn neither then nor thereafter clarified to which “internal injuries” she was referring.

“I want to know,” she lectured Cheshire, “why you think this woman, who you claim to know an awful lot about, would have made up this story . . . and turned her life upside down.” In fact, as we know now, the accuser “made up this story” as she was on the verge of being involuntarily committed.

...

This is the person who’s going to moderate a forum on race in Durham? Tuesday night, perhaps Duke students should make clear to Zahn that they expect higher journalistic standards when their classmates’ lives are at stake.

Again, I'm not sure where the "right wing media" fit in with this.  Journalistic mal-practice seems to be more like it.

She was naive about the way Big Media works, and got burned.

In other news, it's cold outside.

The fact there wasn't a monitor in the Green Room should have been enough for her to realize it wasn't serious, but circus.

Any remember 'Rush Limbaugh'; 24/7 Cinton Basher ???? Anyone able to focus on, The Newscaster image/words, the left to right text dialogue at the bottom of the screen with running text unrelated to what the newscaster is saying; the right to left text dialogue with unrelated text to either of the above; the pop-up window to the right with what is coming next; the very top of screen with text dialogue running either left or right, unrelated to any of the stuff already there.

Can anyone focus on any of this; or am I being decieved. Hey, at least we are informed.

Al Franken, in his book "Lying Liars and the Lies They Tell" gathered information to prove or disprove the idea that the media has a left wing bias.

Media trashed liberals about 3 out of 4 stories, all the while complaining about the media bias towards liberals.

Al Franken's point was that anybody who believed it should have their medications adjusted.

Dont shoot me, Im just the messenger.
