My girl has serious back problems from scoliosis; 12 surgeries, totally fused from the base of her neck all the way down.  she is in a great deal of pain on a daily basis and despises pain medications.  Sometimes she can keep the pain under control mentally for a week or so before it becomes debilitating.

It took Me quite awhile to wrap My mind around the idea that a good scene could ease her pain for days at a time.  Once I finally realized this and saw the effects it has been a wonderful tool.  her reaction to the pain is sometimes hard to believe, she'll be energized and very active for days after a good hard scene.  When she starts to slow down again, it's time to scene again. (of course this isn't the only reason we scene :)  she is very much a masochist and can take a great deal.  I've expanded My own limits over the years and have never come close to hers.

I have spoken to her doctors and they have given a green light to any kind of play that helps.  her spine has had so many fusions over the years that it would take a lead filled pipe swung hard to cause any damage (a quote from her doc).  I don't do much on her back other than light flogging though, for other reasons.

In the beginning of our relationship the physical pain helped her to let go of her emotional pain from a hard past.  Even now, the physical pain helps when issues that are buried deep arise.

Oh, and yes she used to be a cutter too, she hasn't done that in close to 3 years now.

I saw the post about using pain to control physical or mental pain....which then turned into a discussion of cutters.  So, I was about to post one addressing the use of pain to control physical pain when I saw this one.

I had a near death car accident 10 years ago, shattered my left arm into many, many piece and ended up with neurological damage from nerves that were severed, grew back wrong, etc.  Flying through spinal cord stimualtors (removed) and good pain meds (which help), I still have days in which the pain is nearly unmanageable.

I beg His Highness to beat my ass until it is red and bruised on those days and my nipples are so tortured I can't put clothing against them.  Somehow, this gets my own endorphins in high drive and, while the pain from the injuries just sustained are thought of as "pleasant", the mean, nasty, vicious pain temporarily goes into hiding.

Pain is very subjective.  Before the accident, I would have placed "childbirth" (which on the 1-10 scale established by physicians is usually a 10) at a 10.  After, it is only a 5.

Pain sucks!

i have used physical bdsm pain... to cover my disability pain.  Bdsm pain produces endorphines, and that is what helps to mask the real pain i have.   If i have a really good session, with alot of pain, i am great for days...  MMM a medicinal effect of being spanked, whipped, and canned severely !  :)

A good friend wanted to do a flogging demo on me one night and although I was tired I agreed as it was a small crowd and not really anyone else around that he could do it to show some newbies.  I was hurting really badly.  He started and damm it was better than pain killers, and it actually took the pain away and it stayed away for a week.  For awhile everytime it came back, he would fix me up.  Was talking to my doctor about it, comes to find out...was doing more damage than good in the long run and could very possible end me up perment parayalzed from the neck down....

Oh My. Yes when ever reading comments, advice or perceptions always consult with a doctor before undertaking activities or medication. That is just common sense.

yes I have used  ds pain as a cover up for emtional pain but never for physical pain.   there have been times when i have asked my  Dom to " beat me till u see blood" .  thankfully he's smart enough to know thats the emitional hurt talking  and doesnt listen to my upset rambling's and stops long befor blood.

That the responsibility of a dominant.

Has anyone gone beyond thier limits in this fashion and regretted or not regretted it?

i have not reied for physical pain, but for emotional pain, a good spanking can cure almost anything. plus that feeling of humble after is enough to make any girl embarassed she was being so emo and self centered. i too, used to be a cutter as an early teen so this could be an underlying factor to the end result.

Why do you think you were a cutter?

What were your desired end results ?

Yes spanking can be very centering.

Humiliation also can eb too.

Interesting. What works for some obviously might not be recommended for others.

Many do enjoy the freeway from pain to mind to body...

Yes I know many that do the very same. The constant reminder of such activites is a means to enjoy through out the day indeed.

I also wonder sometimes if it's a bad thing to use scene pain to help mask real physical or emotional pain... should there be a line? Or should you just go with whatever makes you feel comfortable?

I feel one should adapt what one feels comfortable with and doing and go from thier within consenting limits.

Oh I am sorry, I didn't see this until today. Good/fun pain is play. Scening with my Dom. Good pain is not my body going out of control, but instead it is my mind getting under control.. I hope that made a modicum of sense.
