Marc2b -> The Haiku Thread (1/21/2007 10:39:35 PM)

Another Thread, "Poet’s Corner & Other Random Jive Turkeys" by RobertCloud, inspired me to give this a try.

Okay folks, If you’re feeling a little creative, why not give Haiku a shot?  For those who are unfamiliar with Haiku – it is a Japanese form of poetry that follows a strict pattern: three lines (no more, no less) with the first line having exactly five syllables (syllables, not words!), the second line seven syllables and the third line five syllables.

Although I’ve never been big on writing poetry in general, I’ve always like the Haiku. It forces you to discard all the clutter and get to the point in the matter. It can be tricky but fun (almost like solving a puzzle) trying to fit what you want to get across into the rigid scheme.

Write about any topic you want to. Your Haiku can be funny or profound, silly, sappy, sweet, gross, insightful, thoughtful or whatever. There are no limits. I look forward to reading other’s Haiku. Here are six Haiku I have written (a couple a while back while taking a writing class, the others more recently). Two are repeats from the earlier thread. I like to title my Haiku but that doesn’t mean you have to.

A Contented Sigh

The night, like velvet
wrapped tight, a cloak gathered up.
Sounds come, crickets, frogs.

Pleasure, drowning on
symphony composed for us.
Laughing, loving...time

...to float, to give of
ourselves, diving, swimming on
till crashing, spinning.

Energies entwined
curling, flowing, swirling, slow.
A heartbeat clearly

thuds, melting again
finding the edges, jumping
ledge to ledge to cliff.

Dawn from the summit
sun, brilliant, blazing, peaking.
We fly, soaring high

once more to find you-
me-we are filled together,
each apart but whole.

A Contended Sigh.
Peace, languid, soft, in bloom.
Dreams until the night.

Master Fire

Haiku for misguided Dominants:

1.
You say "Kneel now, bitch!"
Please, not on a first date, Sir.
Remember yourself.

2.
Total stranger say:
"You are my latex princess"
Be gone - rude weirdo.

There are some real good ones here. I particularly like MasterFireMaam’s:
quote:

The night, like velvet
wrapped tight, a cloak gathered up.
Sounds come, crickets, frogs.

It creates a mood which is what I think the best Haiku’s do, and it reminds me of nights at my Grandfather’s cabin in the woods when I was growing up.

I also like Lorelei115's:
quote:

Raven in winter
A solitary darkness
Laughing at the white

and spankmepink11's:
quote:

Echos in the night
Were you ever really there?
All circuits busy

Here’s another one from me:

I refuse to understand

I'll do more later, but I have to watch the clock because it's getting close to Heroes time.
