AN EMPTY COLLAR There is an empty collar. It sets upon a shelf. Its meant to keep a life in check. Its meant for no one else. Its meant to circle round a heart. To assure a girl of her place. Its meant to restore all her dreams, and maybe fears erase. There is an empty collar. It once held a girl with love. But now its empty, cold and hard. Setting on a shelf above. Once within its band of steel, a girl happily danced and served. The key that took it off lays aside. She got what she deserved. The collar has no feelings. Yet what memories it might tell. Of the tears she cried of pain and lies, how in love her heart did swell. The letters are now tarnished, faint and growing dim. It had become a simple prison once she'd lost the love of HIM. Now there is an empty collar, lying high up out of reach. The girl who wore its heart is cold, yet still of life she tries to teach. Each day she looks up to it, tears streaming down her face. This had been a last ditch effort, nothing can the pain erase. Forever on the shelf above, the collar will reside. Empty cold and broken like the slave who died inside. Before You lay a collar, before You promise forever more, remember the poor empty collar and the pain inside it stores. ~*~THE END~*~
