I found this free e-book quite fascinating. It explains law, the monetary/banking system, credit, and things related. It even touches on the draft, health, the spiritual, and more... all from a sovereign perspective.
The law portion is aimed primarily at citizens of Canada and the US, but the rest has global implications.
I think the title of the book is somewhat misleading, so don't let it throw you off. Give it a chance. Unless you're rigidly status-quo and closed-minded to alternative ideas, you'll probably be glad you did:
