The bed costs that much because the material is not cheap, a ton of labor is required to build them, there is a limited market for such items, and that "free" shipping really isn't free after all. How much do you think something like that should cost?

You didn't say where you were located but if You have access to Toronto the link provided might be of interest. They are pricey too but the exchange difference would help a little if you are from the US.

$500 to $1000??? You need to seriously adjust your assumptions.

The cost for the steel alone is at least $500.

Add to that the labor required to cut the 40+ pieces to length, drilling, prepping for welding, welding, cleaning up the welds, prepping for treating, treating, clearcoating, packaging and shipping. Even if all that could be done for only $500, that leaves nothing for profit, and I doubt they're producing these beds as a charity endeavor.

If they could produce that bed for under $2000, and that's a big if, I would be surprised.

True, It'd be a lot less expensive if the bed was wood, I know someone who said they could do wood beds but steel would be out of they're leage.

MsLisa -> RE: Steel bondage beds. (3/5/2005 6:47:24 AM)

$2500 for a handcrafted bed in general is pretty reasonable. Having one custom made would probably be more. Be careful of someone who has never built a bondage bed before regardless of the materials. They may very well do a great job but there is also the possibility they won't have thought everything through (intended use, structure, bondage points etc). Do as much research about bondage beds as possible to learn all the selling points of each model (very much like buying a car...unfortunately they don't have a Bondage Max website out there...that's a joke...Car Max....Bondage Max...okay, I thought it was funny). If you go the custom route you can then list the various features you've found and help guide your furniture builder.

Swings...I'd HIGHLY recommend these people. I ADORE them personally and I've sat in the swing....napped in it quite frankly. Its comfortable, sturdy and very well made. They are also pretty well known vendors from the midwest so they aren't some fly-by-night amateur leather workers.

I like the ones with out the squares in them, They are comfy yes, I had a chance to recline an simply relax in one a few weeks ago.

MasterRedemption -> RE: Steel bondage beds. (3/7/2005 5:53:13 AM)

As MsLisa stated .. you definately have to be careful with a bed that isnt made out of steel. I have been building mostly wood beds for years , I do use steel for the posts and such , or at lest a think steel inside the wood posts. I built my personal 4 poster canopy bondage bed 6 years ago with steel reinforced wood and it has held up to use at least 3 times a week for those 6 years. I weigh 165 lbs. and I have had an additional 350 into it for the suspension and/or swing. I build and sell all kinds of bondage furniture , mostly wood . If A/anyone would like a price a list or pictures , just message me.

METALBOUND -> RE: Steel bondage beds. (3/8/2005 5:10:24 PM)

Hello, I have been manufacturing metal bondage beds for the last 12 years
http://metalbound.com There is no way to sell a quality metal bondage bed for less than $2000. and that is a starting point. In the last year the cost of steel has almost doubled yet the retail prices have only gone up about 10% so it is the manufacturers like myself that are taking the biggest hit. Metalbound will not skimp on quality in order to produce a cheeper product. If anyone has question pertaining to metal bondage equipment I will be happy to answer them directly, feel free to email me @ [email protected]

I am currently constucting my own

I use 2" aluminum pipes

The cost is aprox
Alu pipes $400
Addl. hardware$350
Ikea Mattress $350 (wich I alreday had)

so total is $1100

the bed also doubles as a pilates tower - at least the the explanation to non kinksters :-)

this can be put together with a minimum of effort. Only thing is cutting the pipes to fit.
I like the raw aluminum look, but it could be painted at additional cost.

email me here if you want pictures and a detailed description.

For someone who wants to try and make their own metal furniture but lacks the necessary tools to cut and weld metal, they can use steel or aluminum pipe and Kee-Klamps. All sorts of wonderful things can be made with pipe and Kee-Klamps.

MistressRavenQoE -> RE: Steel bondage beds. (3/15/2005 2:51:15 PM)

Here in the UK I bought my bed from Playpenz.co.uk at a very reasonable price. I partly designed it by asking for additional features such as the additional crossover bars be added at the top base of the bed. I wanted a cockring device creating. I wanted loops attached to the top bars in order to hook a love swing to. I wanted lights included too with dimmer switch. I only have a small room and the bed fits in perfectly and is very strong. It's very strong, works perfectly for my needs and is highly praised by all who see or experience it.

The cost, made, delivered and installed £820
(the mattress I already had)

I'd love to show a big pic of the bed but due to my pc throwing a wobbly on me and losing all my files I've had to lift this one from my web site, should give you a rough idea of how it looks.

Suggestion: many highs chools and vocational schools have a welding fabrication course. They usually are looking for projects for students to work on. Generally you supply the material and a small gift of money (for students end of year party). Students have done several projects for me in the past to high quality and my satisfaction.

Nyckname -> RE: Steel bondage beds. (9/24/2006 4:45:39 PM)

Almost anyone with a hacksaw and a wrench can construct one using Unistrut, http://www.unistrut.com/, Kee Clamps, http://www.keesystems.com/, or some similar type scaffolding system.

cheers
