quote:
ORIGINAL: juliaoceania I think it is backwards that we have doctors for sickness, but we have no one to promote wellness Here in the UK we do have people paid truly ludicrous sums of money out of the public purse to tell us to eat fruit and vegetables. Most of these people earn lots more than policemen, firefighters or nurses working the late shift in the ER. This is not a good thing. quote:
We have a department of defense, but not a department of peace Peace is not often financially viable in the long term. Peace can often only be achieved by force of arms, talking nicely does not always solve problems unfortunately. Much as I admire your ethical stance, no amount of talking is going to stop those who wish real harm the only viable options are submit or destroy :( quote:
That we study abnormal psychology more than normal psychology... how are we supposed to be mentally well unless someone describes what that looks like? I think quantum mechanics is probably easier to decribe than a "normal" mind. What is normal anyway? Are we normal because we admit what we are to ourselves and are generally happy, or is it normal to repress such feelings? quote:
I find it backwards that every war we ever fought seems to bring more of the same... fight drugs? More drugs! Fight cancer? More Cancer! Fight poverty? More poverty! Fight terrorism... oh yes, we shall have more of that too... /sighs On the other hand apathy and paficism acheive even less, it is perhaps not the wars that are the problem, but the way they are fought. Is there really more cancer, or is it just that medical science now identifies it more readily? Is there more poverty, or is the money that is supposed to be used to help people ending up in the pockets of beauracrats? Or is it simply that have nots still have not, whereas the haves have more making the difference bigger rather than the numbers? Are there more drugs on the streets, or is that more seem to be seized and the users of such things are more open about their habits? Is there more terrorism, or is just more visible thanks to 24/7 coverage? All of these are pretty rhetorical in nature, but if anyone wants to have a go at them feel free [:)]
