SomeonesAngel -> you know what's backwards? (1/25/2007 10:42:50 PM)

You know what's backwards...
(please feel free to continue on and add more of your own...)

1. That i get far more offensive mail from men on my vanilla sites, who are less respectful towards women and far more pervertedly suppressed, then i ever get from my mail here.

2. That the women on Desperate Housewives (the Bravo version) are much uglier disgusting money-grubbing whores than the girls on Girls Next Door - and yet society would casts the worst moral judgement on those 3 adorable playgirls.

3. That there is some damned golden rule that apparently men truly want marry a madonna, but fuck a whore, and you'd think being both would be to your advantage...but apparently its just backwards.

Thanks for sharing that........I guess...?

The most backward thing I can think of is modern society's tendency to treat symptoms instead of causes.

I find the hypostatization of "society" very backward myself.

I think it is backwards that we have doctors for sickness, but we have no one to promote wellness

We have a department of defense, but not a department of peace

That we study abnormal psychology more than normal psychology... how are we supposed to be mentally well unless someone describes what that looks like?

I find it backwards that every war we ever fought seems to bring more of the same... fight drugs? More drugs! Fight cancer? More Cancer! Fight poverty? More poverty! Fight terrorism... oh yes, we shall have more of that too...

/sighs

I think it is backwards that we have doctors for sickness, but we have no one to promote wellness

Here in the UK we do have people paid truly ludicrous sums of money out of the public purse to tell us to eat fruit and vegetables. Most of these people earn lots more than policemen, firefighters or nurses working the late shift in the ER. This is not a good thing.

Peace is not often financially viable in the long term. Peace can often only be achieved by force of arms, talking nicely does not always solve problems unfortunately. Much as I admire your ethical stance, no amount of talking is going to stop those who wish real harm the only viable options are submit or destroy :(

I think quantum mechanics is probably easier to decribe than a "normal" mind. What is normal anyway? Are we normal because we admit what we are to ourselves and are generally happy, or is it normal to repress such feelings?

On the other hand apathy and paficism acheive even less, it is perhaps not the wars that are the problem, but the way they are fought.

Is there really more cancer, or is it just that medical science now identifies it more readily?
Is there more poverty, or is the money that is supposed to be used to help people ending up in the pockets of beauracrats? Or is it simply that have nots still have not, whereas the haves have more making the difference bigger rather than the numbers?
Are there more drugs on the streets, or is that more seem to be seized and the users of such things are more open about their habits?
Is there more terrorism, or is just more visible thanks to 24/7 coverage?

All of these are pretty rhetorical in nature, but if anyone wants to have a go at them feel free [:)]

I find it rather amusing that you shot down all of what I think is backwards, and yet, you think that the present course that we are on is "viable"... you tell me, is it or is it not true the more we "fight" things, the more they flourish? At least this is my experience... but if you think that is backwards, that is your opinion... I just say it like I see it[;)]
