I'm a relative newbie here so don't beat me up(oh, wait.  i'm a submissive so do as you wish!)if this topic has been discussed already but I am wondering what you all think about the way bdsm is portrayed on mainstream TV.  For example, the character of Lady Heather in 3 CSI episodes, "Slaves of Las Vegas", "Lady Heather's Box," and "The Rise of the 3rd Reich."  Also, are there any other "maimstream" shows where a Domme or Dom has played such an intregral role in the story?

Law and Order SVU (my fav show) has had BDSM related crimes, and BDSM is  always portrayed in a negative light. It bothers me sometimes since I love every other aspect of the show.

I think that Lady Heather is a wonderful character in that the show doesn't make her out to be some sicko. They allow her to be a complex character (i.e an actual human being) instead of plastering up some sterotype of a prodomme. So I say kudos to CSI.

I think it is getting fair play. CSI also did a show about adult baby play.

Yes it is refreshing the "reality" of her character....Like it was pulled from the profiles off of CM!.....(Domiguy rolling on floor...giggling and laughing so hard he poops)  Yep...No sicko's out here! (Domiguy wiping tears and snot off of face...tries to type...but no strength)

out.

Another one for CSI they covered Furries.

all4yourplsr -> RE: BDSM in Mainstream TV (1/26/2007 1:27:16 PM)

i'm glad you all think that about Lady Heather.  I think the character and the stories they have done with her have been amazing!!  I'm hoping that now that the OC has been cancelled that we will see more of Mindy Clarke/Lady Heather on CSI.

Sadly CSI, and it's offshoots, seem to be the only one to regularly try and shed both sides of the lifestyle on people. Even when DS is a crime, someone usually comments about how it's normal to them, or the positive sides.

Sadly the other shows in the genre, L&O and it's million offshoots, usually show the negative and nothing in the way of positive.

Outside of Melinda Clarke's wonderful portrayal as Lady Heather, I have yet to find a dominant as a regular on a show. The ones I've seen in passing I've just wanted to slap.

Don't hold your breath waiting for Lady Heather to make a comeback.  William Petersen is leaving the show, and that relationship is leaving with him.

My favorite kinky character is Mr Slave on South Park

Then there are some episodes on The Shield where Acevada is with a hooker who gives him the rules for the rough stuff . . ."you can pull my hair but not out, you can hit me but don't bruise". There are also other dominant themes with other characters such as a boot on a neck saying "I tell you to suck my dick, you say 'Do you want me to lick your balls daddy'", or another scene where Mackey sticks a gun in a girl's mouth and essentially tells her "You're my bitch now and you're gonna do what I say." Fun stuff, very powerful, and IMO makes all the CSI stuff seem lame.

SmokingGun82 -> RE: BDSM in Mainstream TV (1/26/2007 5:39:44 PM)

The Shield is really good in that... there's a scene when Mackey beats the Hell out of a john who roughed up the prostitute he was semi-friends with, telling him that's only ok if she consents.

And the CSI with furries is what made me start watching- I don't understand furries, myself, but the fact that they handled it even-handedly made me respect the show.

prettichinadoll -> RE: BDSM in Mainstream TV (1/26/2007 6:38:55 PM)

I love Mr. Slave in South Park LOL!!!

Also, Carmon's mother is a domme lady, there's a scene briefly showing she doming the school counsellor (what's his name...). somehow I think the creator of south park probably is borderline lifestyler or something.

I had a heated debat with my best friend (who's also in the lifestyle) whether Grissom is a subbie boy or a dominate, although I love Grissom...I eventually admit that he's probably a subbie boy...and he would make perfect match with Lady Heather.

Missokyst -> RE: BDSM in Mainstream TV (1/26/2007 7:09:02 PM)

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
I will continue to hope that William Peterson is on a short break while he does a play, as stated.  I hate the new guy, he is a dud.
Gil is the heart of CSI.

ok so are all forgeting the classic tv show  the adams family?   come on how many times did the show open with tish in the stocks?   or gomeze tied down and a whip in tish's hand?      does it matter that they were both switchs?  I still think of them as the origanal tv lifestyle couple.

Wow.

No wonder CSI is so popular.  I am into the classics.  If there is a Domme in that program, count me in.
I have also noticed a lot of mainstreem commercials featuing whips, spanking, and that type thing. Makes you wonder.

Correction on the spelling, that is mainstream.

An episode of Law & Order Criminal Intent, titled "Seizure".  It had the following elements:  domination/submission and sado-masochism.  I smiled at the phrase "submissive little doggy."  (okay, I am paraphrasing, but that is close to the dialogue)
