Another question  for the Mistresses {I don't like having my questions moved}
I am online a lot, I have DSL and often will just keep the computer on when I am home.
Also, I do a lot of work online and take frequent breaks.
My point is this, I enjoy reading the forums and often posting my opinions.
I noticed a long time ago that many people must spend a long time writing out these
elaborate questions and many write elaborate answers.
Ladies, I need to admit, often I am too lazy to read posts that look like they are a page long,
and I rarely read answers that are a page long.
I often feel like I am reading a damn book.
Ladies? anyone else out there like me?
Too lazy to read those damn long posts and sure as hell to lazy to write one?

fess up

Not that I'm to lazy I just dont have an interest in reading someones self-theraputic talk to themselves adn its as if they are sorting things out in a post that they should sort out to themselves .  it's as if to say: see, i am okay I really am.  it comes off as if they are trying to even sell it to themselves as well as us.  See, im okay, read this page of my thoughts and tell me im smart and okay.

Humm Denny, I have to address my posts to the ladies or they tend to get
moved to offtopic chat, of course anyone can answer them.
Eureka, you are right on point!
If you have to respond to a question with an answer that takes over 3 minutes

to read, often you are writing too much!
IMHO

Get to the point, make your point and then end it already.

Usually, I find that the long posts are asking the same questions as the short posts...only with a lot more background. A lot of the time, the background is really unimportant when it comes to the answer. The background is often someone's projection about how others feel about them OR a history of how they came to ask the question. I skim first. If it's not totally clear and I feel like it, I go back. But, I'm guilty of not reading long posts, too. Essays belong in journals and blogs, in my world. I write them on occasion.

And you've written some excellent ones too!  I'm guilty of writing longer posts, so perhaps MzMia doesn't read many of mine.  Writing in a particularly concise manner, just isn't one of my strengths.

Look, some of us have a lot to say thats all! You really ought to be grateful to be receiving a page long diatribe from me anyway, seeing as how I'm so damned clever, witty, insightful and modest!

More seriously, it depends on who wrote it and what the subject is, and how well its written, as to whether I read a really long post properly or just skim through it; skimming saves time and if there is something that strikes me then it gets a proper read.

I think that is the advantage of such forums, you have the right to pick and choose. That said, I prefer the longer ones often as it saves trouble later when, after replying, you get a huge thing about why your advice/answer is wrong because you didn't have the whole story to begin with.

Same with answers. A thought out answer is often much more useful than merely - Yes or no.

I am partial to a short pithy post in large or bold letters. But then, I am a woman of few words.

I do not read the long posts either.  I only read the topics on occasion, if the title catches my eye.  I also confess that I will skip the replies of certain (over exposed) posters... Reminds me of when Cindy Crawford was on TV every time I turned it on, back in the 90's.  Hell gimme something fresh!
Yeah I've seen and heard you... NEXT!

You Know I am really glad that some one posted this I have been wondering the samething. But just couldn't bring my self to say. Guess it's my sub side showing. but it gets to the point with some where you forget what the origanal point was or question was. If it's needed come back and give additional info to people. be short, to the point and Consise use the Kiss method Keep it simle stupid. not that any of you that post are stupid, infact quite the oppsite. Howeve; sometimes intellegence can be tamed for the common person to understand in plain talk without intent to hurt feelings or lessen the seriousness of the post or question.

I agree that a lengthy post has a higher threshhold to meet to keep interest from each end of the pen. My response depends on time available at that sitting, interest in topic, and the content of the post.

For me, length is not the lone metric and I care about what is said, and how easy it is to read. I prefer a lengthy post that has good structure and makes multiple points over a shorter post that is redundant and difficult to read. Brevity is good, as are articulate expression and clarity.

Cheers,

Sea

I often write long posts as ways of starting conversations. If someone feels she doesn't want to read what I have to say because what I wrote was too long, that's fine. It also means I'm probably not going to be all that interested in her in the first place. But that's just me.

ok that sounded so bitter

anyhow I tend to skip the long posts or I browse over them quickly maybe catching one or two keywords every 5th line or so but I can't bother reading looooooong posts if they're just some unimportant/uninteresting babble

I agree and many of the long posts are just that, babble.
Often the opinion is restated and restated ad naseum.

My point is.. sometimes it is time to change the channel.  Too much of the same stuff from the same ole people on these boards.
In essence I agree I don't read long posts as well as confessing I don't read everything everyone says.
Hope that is cleared up now. lol
