I'm always on the lookout for great deals. I won't buy something JUST because it's a good deal, but my partner has often remarked that I seem to have a genetic instinct for finding great clearance stuff. We've been needing a new comfortor for my bed lately since it's old and fluffies are popping out of small holes. Wandering around today we found a fabulous queen green microsuede bed set (comfortor, shams, skirt). Originally $80, marked down to $60, with an extra 30% for a clearance, AND I had some money still left from a gift card I got during the holidays. Ended up getting the set for $30!! I just love sharing my great finds. What are everyone else's "best deal" stories?

Yesterday I went to the mall, a place I hate going, but the advertised sales looked too good to pass up. I found two L. Claiborne suit jackets, the ones that sit right below the waist, for $11.50 each. They were on a 75% off rack with a coupon for another 25% off and I opened a charge to get another 10% off. I love scented candles and found a 90% off shelf at Bath and Body. I got 5 large jar candles for under $ 10.00. I love the great finds too ! mbmbn

OK, LA, this is not the story of a great deal exactly but I will tell you as long as you promise not to tell anyone else. OK? Great I was shopping at Marshall's a couple of years back and went to the register with a bunch of stuff, including a black suit that was $100. She was scanning and bagging everything and I noticed that she missed the suit. And I didn't say anything and ended up getting it for free. LOL I felt like I won the lottery that day. When I was in the antiques business I found a set of flow blue dishes at a yardsale for 16 dollars, I turned around and sold them for almost 900 There was the time I bought a 500 dollar set of Aunt Jemina spice containers for 45 bucks, sold for 600 dollars with the syrup thing thrown in There are many other examples... I loved doing that business and I am still mulling over whether to go and open a store again.

the Owner and i bid on and won a king sized down comforter for $12.50 off ebay (brand new) it is soo nice, I love it!

My grandparents passed away. My mother asked me if I wanted their old kitchen set which my grandfather had painted with house paint around 1964. I had it stripped, varnished. Argued with the guy who wanted to put a green antiquing stain on it. When I went to pick it up, the guy at the stripping place said he would give me 10,000 dollars for it since it was solid red maple. I replied "dude, its my grandparents old table, but thanks." There is a women's discount clothing store about 3 miles from my house that sells designer clothing at about 90% off MSRP - it's the stuff that didn't sell at the department stores (for whatever reason). The inventory is from all across the U.S., so it keeps up with "trends" (if some care about that, which I don't always). *A few weeks ago, I got a pair of Liz Claiborne micro-suede pants, in a beautiful bronze color there for $8.00 (eight dollars)!! There were no flaws in the pants - they were just ridiculously low-priced! I had to get them altered (I don't sew, and the waist is always too big, as far as pants or skirts, and also the legs usually too long, if it's pants, when I buy clothing) - and it cost me twice as much to have them altered as the pants cost! Even with the cost of alterations, the pants were still a good deal* (I think). I love that store - I am in there about every two weeks, at minumum. I might not buy anything, but I love to look, because the deals are always great. - Susan

My last fabulous black dress was originally $180, but at the right discount/sale at Macy's, with discount for using their card, I paid $50. And I too have the find awesome bargain genes. [:D] M

Best deal, by far, has been furnishig my apartment. I have one camp chair that has been my saving grace while I was looking for real furniture... and I paid all of $6 for it. When I finally did bouy furniture, I got my sleeper sofa at the salvation army. It was brand new, from a rich family in the neighborhood that decided they wanted to change the colors in their guest living room and they wanted the couch out of the way. The mattress inside hadnt even been unwrapped! And I paid $65 for it. I got a TV from an overstock store, so I have a 36" flat screen TV that cost me $200 and came with a free universal remote becuase the management damaged the original remote when the box was delivered. The only thing I paid anywhere near a real prie for was my bedroom furniture, and even that was WAY below average cost. Becasue the local businesses do not watch their fine print, I got a queen sized bed, box spring, frame and inhome setup for $400 :) The apartment was set, and WAY under budget. Yay

I think some of the stuff at Overstock.com is a great deal (although you have to hunt, as some of it isn't - and it over-priced, I think, for a so-called "sale item"). But I've bought several wedding and baby shower gifts from Overstock.com. that were really good deals (I thought), and were also well-received by the "giftee". - Susan

The stores are trying to get the spring things in the store now, and putting clearance tags on the winter things. I was seeing Christmas things before last Halloween so they do think way ahead. I mall walk for exercise before work sometimes and I do stop at the clearance racks in Macys and other big stores to glance, and often buy when the price is too good to pass up. Thumbs up to all the bargain buyers here on this post.

Susan, I agree some great deals at Overstock.com I use them quite often I also like Amazon.com for used books My daughter is a book Freak! reads 3 or 4 a week, so buying some for 1.00 or less and having them delivered to my door.. Niffty

Me too! Two weeks ago we went out for a few things and as usual browsed the lingerie dept. Found a two dollar rack so we went through it and i found two strapless bras in my size, 38DDD, for two bucks each. Both were originally forty dollars.

There is a great used bookstore that opened up here , you bring in 3 books to trade and get one free. The problem I have found with the online shopping is the shipping costs. That usually makes the price too expensive versus buying it at a store. PS twice where are the pix? :)

I'm someone who just does not like shopping period. So I have ways of making it a little easier on me. As far as linens go (comforters, drapes, etc) I shop from brylanehome.com At given times you can pick up a bed in a bag set for 20 complete with sheets. Though they generally aren't the 400 thread count variety when you get them with the rest of the stuff. With as much business as I've given them over the year's I should get commission. People seeing the curtains..etc. Anyway, those are my suggestions for deals on linens and stuff. Overstock.com is ok for some items. However watch the sheets as well. I saw a report that the company that they sell does something with the thread count. When you look at it under a microscope...it is shotty material. The 1200 thread count is about as good as 100 thread count of a regular brand.
