LeatherBentOne -> Candle lighting rituals (1/29/2007 6:54:31 AM)

I was wondering who has experience with candle lighting rituals (as a scene opener) similar to "white magic?"

In the past, I'd read a few books on how one can use different colored in specific places on an alter while reciting a self-composed script to illicit (for lack of a better term) certain spiritual qualities such as: power, protection, positive energy, well-being, etc., just to suggest a few.  Although these rituals were not linked to BDSM, I started to purchase some colored candles years ago but fell short of following through and using them in this manner.  Recently, Ive been thinking of getting back into adding sprituality to my BDSM repetoire, but want to do some addition research before I make a final decision as to if, and how deep, I'd want to delve into this practice.

Always eager to learn more.  Thanx for your responses.

There's lots of information online about color and meaning..even candle color and meaning. For example, I found this at http://www.abeautifulsoul.com/candles.htm:

Candles emit positive energy and convey to the universe your intentions.  Below you will find a list of colors and what they attract.  Black candles serve to dissolve the negative energies, however; black should always be burned with another color in order to bring forth balance. Green: abundance, growth and health Yellow: intellect, wisdom and honor Red: energy, vitality, and strength White: purity, innocence, clarity and unity Pink: devotion, love, tenderness and faith Gold: enlightenment, protection and Divine Mother Lavender: Mother consciousness, manifestation and selflessness Blue: communication, truth, peace, and Divine Mother Orange: cleanses negative attitudes, situations and places Brown: material prosperity Purple: use with white candle to neutralize effects of karma and ego Rose: compassion for self and others, higher mystical powers, humor Peach: restoration and rejuvenation Ivory (beige): neutrality, balance and harmlessness Black: Burning black with any other color disolves negative energies!

In my experience the color of candles, etc has always been predominant within the gay community.  I don't quite know why as candles are beautiful on their own.

Though, I think you can probably find all of your answers if you seek there.

WE love candles ,in fact have them all thur the house,ONE ritual I use with candles in in a collaring cermony.A ring of white candles in a small circle ,slave and I within,There she pledges her submission and devotion and receives her collar...MY granie and mom were white witches so a certain amount has rubbed off on us kids.BH

Only on a very superficial basis. I've used color therapy...and enjoyed the results. Like a lot of things, these practices usually only have value if you believe in them and place value in them. Some people swear by crytals, some by science. So, if you think it has meaning for you, look into it and try it. Wiccan and Pagan sources might also offer insight into the subject. I rarely do "spells".

Greetings Mistress Leather Bent One,
at one time a girl could have said that she used candles for a religious reasons, now during a scene it is very ritualistic and adds  a  warm glow. Sir would turn off  all the lights, and we have two5 feet candle stands in black wrought iron, which illuminate the room beautifully.  We have small stone holders which emit a  warm brown swirling glow, and we have small candle stands approxiamatly 3 feet high which light the way. no lights are needed just the warm glow.
There is a ritual with lighting them, and the gentle art of blowing them out, careful as to not to spread the wax and slowly the room turns to darkness as each candle is extinguished. Very beautiful, very ritualistic, sets the mood.

As  far as colors and meaning, they could mean whatever you want it to, different colors do have symbolic meanings, but each color also can awaken a  feeling or thought within, whatever your power color is the color you are drawn to should be the  color used.
hope this helps, have a wonderful evening, and please remember candles and fire can be a danger too if not respected. don't fall asleep with them lit.
Sincerely,
justina the sweet potato

Yes it is.  [:)]

Candles are wonderful.  I used to serve dinner by candlelight because it soothed high-energy unmentionables.  Need to go candle shopping.
