SirKenin -> "Seers" - The ultimate scam (1/30/2007 11:27:39 AM)

There is a wannabe "seer" on TV...  If you pay close attention to her, she is asking leading questions, and when making mistakes she broadens her scope to try and cover her ass.  For one example, she was asking leading questions to a lady in the audience.  She asked about a "John".  When the lady did not know a John, the scope was broadened to the ladies around her, asking any of them if they know a "John", and when one responded that they did, her response was that all of their dads wanted to talk at once..  And then she started asking questions that any one of the five could answer.

What a huge scam.  I do not know if it is in fact possible to talk to the dead (I have my own thoughts about Ouija boards for instance), but this was a complete load of hooey.  Are there any *real* seers in the world, or are they all posers?

Yes, there are a lot of scammers that use faith to pull one over on us, most of them in this country are using the Bible though

windchymes -> RE: "Seers" - The ultimate scam (1/30/2007 1:44:59 PM)

I'm kinda on the fence with this question, because I have experienced discussions with "perceptive" people who do seem to know things they could not possibly have known, and did NOT ask the leading questions or generalized questions.  I think there are "real" ones out there, but that there are indeed a lot of hooey's on tv and in "Psychic Fairs" who are just pulling fast ones on us.

Many, MANY times, someone will pop into my head for no reason, and a few seconds later the phone will start ringing and it's that person.  Might be coincidence, but it seems to happen an awful lot to be simply that....who knows?

I think that our brains have a way bigger capacity and ability than we know, and if we could tap into some of it....who knows?

I am sensing that this isn't a line that is turning out to be drawn in the sand.

Thankyou,

For my next act, I will now set myself afire after the manner of the Buddhists, after which I will reduce unemployment by 0.04%.

(Domiguy collapses on stage...A large GASP..as the CM crowd rushes forward...A roadie runs out and helps up Domiguy throws a robe over his shoulders (ala James Brown or Elvis) and slowly helps him off of the stage).

Crowd errupts with Yells of approval and Awe!!!!!

asassylilslave -> RE: "Seers" - The ultimate scam (1/30/2007 2:16:45 PM)

it depends on what you consider a 'seer' to actually be.

If you are referring to the ability to see things that could/might happen , then yes, I do believe that there are those with this ability.

If you are referring to those who can 'see' ghosts, then yes, I do believe that there are those who possess this ability.

If you are just simply asking if those on teleivision, who make their living off the misery of others in this way; then no, I do not believe that THEY possess any abilities outside of the ones needed to be a con artist.

Any second now, I expect you to break into a "Carnak the Magnificent" act![:D]

aSlavesLife -> RE: "Seers" - The ultimate scam (1/30/2007 5:04:10 PM)

The so called seers use something called cold reading to pull off their scam. Then there are people that do it naturally by reading small nods or other body language without intent to mislead. Nothing paranormal about it.
