The big three, Budwieser, Miller and Coors are all considered lagers.

theyre just yellow water to me.

missturbation -> RE: Piss Water mandatory? (2/1/2007 1:16:00 PM)

Bud is quite a popular lager over here. Miller and coors are also available but not so popular. Stella (wife beater) is still a big seller, corona, san miguel and those kinds seem to be drunk in fads.
I'm presuming (correct me if im wrong) that your personal fave lagers are all ones over 5% in abv?

Rumtiger -> RE: Piss Water mandatory? (2/1/2007 1:37:55 PM)

yes, though I have a preference for stouts and ales.

the one 5% I can think of that I enjoy would be Honeybrown...at least I believe thats at 5%

missturbation -> RE: Piss Water mandatory? (2/1/2007 1:49:44 PM)

I can't actually decide which side of the fence i'm on with this discussion. Not really for or against the banning of malt liquors over 5% abv.
I did have a look into some statistics for alcohol related stuff and came up with the following. Bare in mind this was only a brief look.

In the USA 80% of the population have drunk under age. The average age of the first drink was 11 for boys and 13 for girls.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/underage_drinking_in_America

In the UK 44% of all violent crime was commited under the influence of alcohol.
54% of crime against strangers was under th influence of alcohol.
http://www.homeoffice.gov.uk/crime-victims/reducing-crime/alcohol-related-crime/

Now from a health and safety point of view if the banning of stronger drinks would make a difference i would be all for it. However considering much higher abv drinks exist and are not included in the proposed ban i do not really see it will make much difference.

Rumtiger -> RE: Piss Water mandatory? (2/1/2007 2:01:37 PM)

Considering the main thing that underage kids drink is cheap 5% beer I dunno about all that.

missturbation -> RE: Piss Water mandatory? (2/1/2007 2:05:04 PM)

I wouldnt dispute that which is why i cant really see the banning of over 5% abv changing much.

I was being civil hun. Trying to find out why you object before i jump in and say what i think helps avoid us biting each others asses.

I did not know that is what it took to get you to bite my ass....I have clearly been going about this in the wrong manner.

Well I just checked my favorite small brewery's website and it turns out all of the varieties I generally buy hover right around 5% ABV. I was fairly surprised to find that they do make small batches that run as high as 11% though.

If the limit was 6% instead of 5% I think my beer drinking would be entrely unaffected and if it served to cut down on the folks buying a 40 on the way home and then beating their wife/kids I'm for getting rid of of the high proof beer.

domiguy -> RE: Piss Water mandatory? (2/1/2007 9:53:11 PM)

It' time to get to know Domiguy a little better.  When not punishing some little subbie...domiguy is somewhat of a beer geek. Undercover, and still very cool, but a beer geek nonetheless.

The majority of the tasty brews we "go at" on regular basis all have an alcohol % well above 5 with the average probably around 8-12%....

I prefer Imperial stouts...Dark and fullbodied like my women...but I also thoroughly enjoy big IPA's (biitter and paler like most of you whores)....and barley wines....Dog Fish Heads 120 minute IPA is pushing 20%....while stouts like Old Rasputtin from North Coast (very easy to find) to Expidition Stout from Bell's.and Dark Lord from Three Floyds(smaller distibution range from 7-13%)
.
Then you have The big IPA's. I believe that Stone Brewery Ca( funny website Arrogantbastard.com)is credited with starting the Big double IPA but locally around Chicago...Three floyds makes a kick ass IPA called Alpha King and an IPA/Barley wine called Dreadnaught...Not for the faint of heart.....When Ol' Domiguy goes out he frequents...two great beer spots in Chicago  The Hop Leaf (features one of the largest selections of Belgian beers) or The Map Room (which was voted in the top five beer bars in the U.S.)

Yep things have changed, the U.S. threw out all of the old Purity laws of Germany and for the last 15 years or so have been kicking ass.  Alaska has a few fine breweries...West coast for some great IPA's and the midwest has probably the best stouts.....Whew! All of this talk of beer makes me want to go flog and fuck the shit out of some woman who believes she deserves better.(not the fucking...there is no better!...just in regards to her all along treatment)

out.

LadyEllen -> RE: Piss Water mandatory? (2/1/2007 9:58:56 PM)

Please tell me, you dont uber chill these wonderful beers do you?

One of the reasons that budweiser et al tastes of nothing is that its practically sub zero. Hate to think youre missing out on all the flavours of proper beer by doing the same to it. Room temperature is the way!

Would you also get rid of wine and whiskey for they are much more potent than a 40.
Those who beat their wife and kids do so because they are assholes not because they are beer drinkers.

All of these beers are better chilled ...oh so slightly....Just open them and put them in one of you cold hearted bitches hands for a few minutes should do the trick.

Yummy.

Hey! Make your mind up will ya!?

One minute its "hot bitches", next minute its "cold hearted bitches"?

I think you might have a head chill thats affecting your reasoning; presumably from drinking quality beer at lower than room temperature!

I'd be in favor of getting rid of the "fortified" wine like Night Train etc. I'd also be in favor of making the smallest bottle for commercial sale larger.

I used to live in a neighborhood in Chicago, Uptown, which had quite an unusual mix of residents. One thing I found very troubling was the small convenience store right at the base of the "L" station where I got off at night and frequently stopped in to pick up milk or bread or a six pack seemed to do much of its busniess from selling 40's, Night Train and its competitiors and the small flask sized bottles of liquor. It was quite clear that the buyers, almost exclusively male, motivation was getting drunk for the absolute lowest price. Having grown up in a house where cheap gin and old granddad were the preferred tools my parents used to achieve the same result I'm all too aware that intentionally becoming drunk is a short step from domestic violence and I'd be willing to inconvenience a whole lot of casual drinkers in order to reduce violence in the home.

-Enjoying a Guiness with some midnight hot wings-

Well, I just know I woudlent exactly want this taken away from me.

ElectraGlide -> RE: Piss Water mandatory? (2/2/2007 11:34:50 PM)

It seems most Americans are fad beer drinkers, most likely driven by advertisement or somebody drinking that brand in a movie. I have always enjoyed dark, bock, bitter and stout beers. 5 years ago no one would drink a Guiness now every body wants it. Same with Newcastle Brown and Bass ale. Microbrews and Yingleng Black and Tan helped jump start people to expand their taste a bit. How long will it last ?

Rumtiger -> RE: Piss Water mandatory? (2/3/2007 12:19:57 AM)

Most but not all, i've only been really drinking for more then a year so my experience is not as high as i'd like (anybody who has been out with me is laughing thier ass off right now) but I know what I like. To be honest i'm really the only one in my circle (including family) who likes the deeper, richer stuff, who knows, maybe its cause most of the public sticks with what they typically had first?

PlayfulOne -> RE: Piss Water mandatory? (2/3/2007 2:30:58 AM)

Rum

Where in the discussion was there any limit on beer?  Beer and Malt Liquer are two different animals.  The big target are most of the flavored malts liquers such as Smirnoff Ice, those cute little flavored drinks they view as being targeted at younger (under age) drinkers. Those are what is fueling the discussion on alchol content, not "beer" in general.

On a side note, you do understand that "lagers" can be vastly different.  Samule Adams is a lager but is nothing like Bud, Miller or Coors.

Your logic is less than convincing.  My post stands "Those who beat their wife and kids do so because they are assholes not because they drink.
