missturbation -> A way of life !! (2/2/2007 8:04:50 AM)

'.... let us say that sadism may be considered not only as a sexual deviation, but as an approach to life - quite apart from the actual sexual habits of the individual. It is, in fact, a way of life -.'
Quote from the introduction to 'Justine' by Alan Hull Watson.

If sadism is a way of life for you in which other aspects of your life other than sexually does it show?

LuckyAlbatross -> RE: A way of life !! (2/2/2007 8:05:59 AM)

It's not a way of life for me.  It's just an aspect of my life that I express in specific ways.

Being subjected to the stupid opinions of others, apparently.

Can i ask what you find stupid about his opinion?

It implies that sadist and masochist are this way about EVERYthing in life...including emotional and psychological issues. I find it offense to imply that I seek out people who are emotional masochists...these people are rarely healthy. I also find it offensive to imply that I am an emotional sadist in my every day life...these people are often abusive. In the end, it's yet another way to say that we're not healthy individuals.

I think I agree with this, after all if I was that much a sadist that it applied to every aspect of my life there would be an awful lot more cars round here with some very big dents in :)

missturbation -> RE: A way of life !! (2/2/2007 9:21:32 AM)

Thank you. I hadn't seen it form that side. I was just curious for those out there who are healthy sadists and masochists in every day life how it shows in their day to day life.

LaTigresse -> RE: A way of life !! (2/2/2007 10:22:13 AM)

I have to agree with MasterFire (as usual). In the bulk of my life I wouldn't say I am terribly sadistic, except with the guys that work for me......[:D]

In fact, in some facets of my life I might even say I am a bit of a masochist......I do, after all, have two grown children.

thetammyjo -> RE: A way of life !! (2/2/2007 10:29:05 AM)

Personally I wouldn't identify myself with deSade at all except that unfortunately the term associated with him gets associated with some things I do. If you read his books, it isn't about pain and pleasure, it is more about being completely selfish and hedonistic regardless of any other person.

YUCK

Yup I completely agree with this. I read "Philosophy In the Bedroom" and it kind of made me ill. Especially the part where they infect the young girls mother with the pox then sew her up (unconcentually, I might add) just because she doesn't want her daughter to be a Libertine. Doesn't sound like a way of life I wanna follow. [&:]

DominaSmartass -> RE: A way of life !! (2/2/2007 10:48:12 AM)

My sadism is a part of my life only in the consensual, sexual realm.

My masochism, however, seems to have no end as I continue to read these forums and subscribe to various other email lists and groups which are often painful to read.

LordVelvet -> RE: A way of life !! (2/2/2007 10:50:10 AM)

As a Switch I find Myself having both masochist and sadist aspects in My life. I guess for Me the key is "aspects". Not everything in My life falls nicely into those labels.
