SirKenin -> Why do American athletes think they're "the world" (2/4/2007 3:21:06 PM)

We're sitting here watching the opening ceremonies for the Super Bowl, and one of the Bears players is going on about how if they win they will be the champions of the world.  Like what the fuck?  How many countries in the world participate in this sport exactly?  One?  Hrmmmmm.

Then there's baseball, the most blatantly obvious example.  The World Series?  Hello????  Two countries play in the American League.  That's hardly the world.
I think they need to get a bit of a grip.

Anyways, I see they're watching in Baghdad.  That's so awesome.  Actually, it is playing live in over 100 countries.  Satellites rock.

I turned it off - i always find american sport namby pamby and way too showy.
Just get on with the game, bring out the men in shorts and lets kick some ass.
Im referring to my beloved Bradford Bulls of course a rugby team [:D]

Lorelei115 -> RE: Why do American athletes think they're "the world" (2/4/2007 3:37:05 PM)

Mmm... rugby men... I have a calender of rugby men in various states of undress, and I have to agree, miss... thats one HELL of a sport.

SirKenin: American athletes are dumbasses, but you have to admit, they have a point. Technically, since no other countries play the sport, they WILL be the world champions. [:D] Gotta agree with you about baseball though. It shouldnt be the "world" series unless all the other baseball playing countries get to join in.

ps: did you know you posted this twice?

Wulfchyld -> RE: Why do American athletes think they're "the world" (2/4/2007 3:49:01 PM)

You forgot the exciting world of Darts! They usually air that right after the national paint drying opens.

missturbation -> RE: Why do American athletes think they're "the world" (2/4/2007 3:52:48 PM)

I'm going to be sexist here but hey what the hell.

Its a man thing this thinking they are the world.

Brandy, cigars in the drawing room, talking like they are the masters of the universe [;)]

Wulfchyld -> RE: Why do American athletes think they're "the world" (2/4/2007 3:54:19 PM)

They are not the Masters of the Universe. I am.

LadyEllen -> RE: Why do American athletes think they're "the world" (2/4/2007 3:56:47 PM)

If another country wants to raise a football team and challange the NFL...By all means... Until then, the NFL champ is world champ.

There's only one true world game and that is soccer, all other games are just wannabes.

I will agree with that. I do not watch soccer, however my children play it and do very well at it.

Uhhhmmm...excuse me but...there was a time when we were the entire champions of the world...glory seekers, yes we were...but at a distance...we deserved it...

I don't think many are unclear that our time is fleeting...

So...give us a little latitude.  We spent most of the 60's, 70's (ok...the first 1/3rd)...the second half of the 80's...pretty much all of the 90's...the beginning of the "oughts" we were pretty much frazzled, and now with the whole China thing we're pretty much thinking...."Huh?"....so....

Give us a little lattitude eh?

We'd like maybe another 12 months with our Coca Cola pants and our assumptions about our preponderance in the world....

We did save the world at one time....I know that's getting a little long in the tooth...but hey...allow us to change our shoes and merge into the world society....without too much shame.

So, we were fucks....people do that....give us some time to adjust....

hahaha.  Too funny.  Ok fuck.  I guess I can allow that.  [sm=lol.gif]

I don't think so really as all athletes the world over can be bigheaded,so you can't really point the finger at the Americans at all really[:D] i don't think.[:D].
