ORIGINAL: SirKenin We're sitting here watching the opening ceremonies for the Super Bowl, and one of the Bears players is going on about how if they win they will be the champions of the world. Like what the fuck? How many countries in the world participate in this sport exactly? One? Hrmmmmm. Then there's baseball, the most blatantly obvious example. The World Series? Hello???? Two countries play in the American League. That's hardly the world. I think they need to get a bit of a grip. Anyways, I see they're watching in Baghdad. That's so awesome. Actually, it is playing live in over 100 countries. Satellites rock. Uhhhmmm...excuse me but...there was a time when we were the entire champions of the world...glory seekers, yes we were...but at a distance...we deserved it... I don't think many are unclear that our time is fleeting... So...give us a little latitude. We spent most of the 60's, 70's (ok...the first 1/3rd)...the second half of the 80's...pretty much all of the 90's...the beginning of the "oughts" we were pretty much frazzled, and now with the whole China thing we're pretty much thinking...."Huh?"....so.... Give us a little lattitude eh? We'd like maybe another 12 months with our Coca Cola pants and our assumptions about our preponderance in the world.... We did save the world at one time....I know that's getting a little long in the tooth...but hey...allow us to change our shoes and merge into the world society....without too much shame. So, we were fucks....people do that....give us some time to adjust....
