It is not a hard limit

and I do not know if it works because I have never had it.

It was discovered accidentally one time as the submissive was abused as a child while doing corner time.

Very tragic.

I think corner time can be useful as a way to get someone to calm down and sort out their thoughts, for both master and slave. 

Though I find my bed is a better place for it than a corner.

Simply putting someone in the corner and calling it a day however is just lazy and not effective for much of anyhing except putting someone in a corner for awhile.

This is why I ALWAYS ask them before I enact a punishment or a seriously intense move if they understand what's about to come, why it's coming, and accept it.  I'm not asking their permission to do it, I'm making sure their head is where I need it to be and that I have all the information I need to go forward.

i would guess it would depend on the corner time. If you have to stand on tiptoes while reaching above your head to a certain mark, or kneel on something such as dried rice it can be a deffinate pain in the..well i for one do not like corner time but then again one is not supposed to enjoy a punishment so it does get a point across.

Respectfully i would much rather a spanking than time out any day of the week. For me the worst punishment is being ignored due to my behavior.

obviously it's not a hard limit for me, since i have no limits hard or otherwise...but it's not something i've ever experienced. probably because for us corner time or a time-out just wouldn't be effective. i'm not a child and we don't engage in roleplay, so that sort of discipline wouldn't actually address any issue.

now there are times when i am sent to a corner to meditate, on my knees with my nose touching the floor, but i don't think that's the sort of thing the OP was referring to.

my late Master would use corner time alot for me and it worked because he required me to place my hands behind my head, standing up straight and it can be quite difficult for long periods of time.

my mom's favorite punishment for me was to stand against the wall and "hold it up", sort of like if i was about to get frisked by the police... one wouldn't think it, but it got to be very painful after a time; and i had to go until mom's arms were tired

i think corner time is ok, but only if the submissive knows exactly what they have done wrong and actually believes they had done wrong... it is an effective way to get the submissive to stew in their own juices and feel remorse for their actions, otherwise they are just taking up space in a corner

for those of us who are masochistic (though i personally don't care for being beaten if not for pleasure, the intent carries through), corner time or a time-out in general is a good form of punishment that generally is not harmful (which must be considered, depending on the emotions of the Dominant)... though Ma'am has yet to need to punish me, the worst thing i can imagine Her doing (within my limits) is to ignore me
