Are you only responsive to those who immediately, completely, and without hesitation throw themselves at you...? I'm all for a healthy ego, but really... must this be some sort of contest where we all posture about how WE don't stoop to actually making an effort to attract someone...? ...and isn't that sort of posturing competing for affection, just in a different way? No, I am not into posturing nor do I have a big ego. I am a very laid back easy going friendly person. I can tell if someone is interested in me or not, by either words or actions. If I am interested in them also, I express that. I don't see it as anything resembling competition. As far as stooping to make an effort, to me that would just be pretending to be someone other than who I am. I want a person to be attracted to me, not some act I am creating. What I am saying is that I don't want to pretend to be someone I am not just to attract someone that would not be attracted to me otherwise.

Well to be honest, before there is some sort of commitment there is usually some competition on some level in my opinion, Someone single, attractive, full of fun and life is probably going to have people vying for their attention. They will have several people trying to spend time with them often. Before this type of person commits, yes they do have others competing for their time. That is what the dating and mating game is about in my experience... we humans make it complicated, but Darwin had it right in many ways.

Actually im reminded of a reality show that screened here a year of 2 ago - same scenario and the 'woman' in question was absolutly gorgeous south america/latin type but yes you guessed it the 'woman' was infact born a man and had simply been taking hormone replacement since he was 12 and since had the neccasary surgury to complete the transformation - now because he had started so young his features though strong werre very feminine and in fact i dont think i knew a single guy who would not have sat up and begged lol - suffice to say the home audience knew that she was in fact a he (genetically at least) - surprisingly they got down to the last 3 and she picked a winner - and THEN they were told the truth - funnily enough they never screened the guys reaction to the news - but you can imagine the stories that surfaced lol, suffice to say the winner declined the prize of 2 weeks alone on a yacht with this woman lol. Anyway in response to the question, no, i wouldnt compete for a woman that was not mine, however, would i steamroller over a guy like the angry viking i can be to defend the woman that IS mine? Hell yes, to my dying breath.

Me compete over a man?....No, because for woman it only causes drama. Friends lost, rumors spread, ect. Woman are aweful to each other when wanting the same man. Any way there are enough other men that i don't see why i should have to. If the man wants me, he'll follow suit. Second point, as a woman being fought over. I wouldn't like it, but if he thinks i am going to come crawling to him....hell no! I guess in my dreamy submisive way I want a Dom who will claim me.

This is all about "15 minutes of fame". Every one of these people, win or lose, ends up getting on magazine covers, gets asked to sit in on the Tonight Show, etc. It ain't for the hopes of finding a good woman...it's all about the Benjamins.

See, it was some black lady that was being interviewed on a TV show. She thought she was some kind of hot or something I guess. All I could think about was how I could reach through the TV and punch her in the head. Anyways, they were showing clips of her pathetic show and that is what gave rise to my question. I was just wondering what kind of guys could be that lame, and then on top of it all be even lamer in chasing after a dumb twat like her. The whole thing made absolutely no sense to me at all. Heh. I can easily see why she was turned down by two other guys though. She needs to be brought down a ladder or two.

I saw an episode or two of one of those shows, a few years back, and I seem to recall that in one of them the winner had the choice between receiving the supposed lust object for whom they were all competing or a bucket of money. That changes the dynamics a bit. And in one where women competed for a man, not only was there the bucket of money at the end, but they were all given increasingly valuable jewellery for every episode in which they avoided elimination.

Yeah, I used to have a roommate that watched shows of the same dubious quality. I just got up and left the room. But are you not the one in control of the remote? You might try the technique I used to observe with the retired parents of a friend. The husband effectively shut off all communication by doing 3 things - 1. turning a sports game on the TV 2. wearing his headphones to listen the radio announcer for the game 3. reading the sports page in the newspaper at the same time quote: ORIGINAL: SirKenin Lol. I agree with your responses. I think we all compete on some level for that which we want; granting some competitions are done in a more refined manner. I also wonder what these folks would compete for, if not a woman? I don't mean competition like physically beating 10 people in order to win her affections; but anyone with any social skill knows that he/she has to have and demonstrate some desirable quality (innate or aquired) in order to be desired by the other. M

If she wants to get use out of it, power to her. I do not micromanage, that is a hard limit for me. I am not a babysitter. She is welcome to watch whatever she wants. She gets enjoyment out of it so it is all good. It is not my choice, but what the hell. But it is funny that some of the shows she watches hightlight how many idiots there are in this world. I will admit, though, some of the stuff she watches can be pretty interesting. But again, she likes it and that is all that matters.

I have two words for that: Attention Whore. And I'm not just talking about the chick. The guys get that award, too. However, the Attention Whore Grand Prize Trophy goes to....DUM DUM DUM...the entire cast of Survivor! Give yourselves a big pat on the back guys! (We know you do it all the time anyway.) Edited to add: I think the penalty/prize for willingly attention whoring yourself out to a mass media dating show should be that the winner have to have sloppy, disgusting sex in a vat of chicken grease with the person they've vyed for. That would make them take true love a little more seriously. Because true love's about the only thing that would get most people down and dirty in a vat of chicken grease.
