When I was a kid I was aroused long ago by an episode of Star Trek called "mirror mirror". If anyone here is a TOS fan, they'll remember that show concerned a brutal alternative universe where Spock had a beard and Uhura wore a belly-baring top and a slave bracelet. And the ambiance was bdsm for sure... Which brings me to the subject of subspace. In Star Trek, subspace is kind of an "ether" or medium used for communication across great distances. Kind of like radio band. Or internet. So I do think its odd that a term to describe a communication medium would also be used to describe an endorphin state where, as I've experienced it, not a lot of communication goes on. I think whoever invented the term subspace for bdsm use was a Star Trek fan with a fine sense of irony. And he/she liked the episode mirror mirror. January

Not a bad theory January another side note - anyone else think that at least one of the writers of CSI (original) is in the lifestyle? Two whole episodes centered around a BDSM house, numerous references throughout the whole series - and usually shown in a positive light ( unless of course the criminal is the one doing the tying up )

Being of the older generation... Does anyone remember Dale Evans...LOL Spin and Marty? Somehow... the games of Cowboys and Indians in My neighborhood were a bit different than some. It was all about tieing the boys to a fence somewhere and proving that they were bad. Just my parents luck to move me into a group of budding FemDoms...LOL I believe that some of these poor "cowboys and bad guys" are still in therapy.

Glad to know i wasn't the only twisted kid playing with Barbie! My sister and i, to keep ourselves entertained during long car trips used to strip the Barbie and Ken dolls, draw on nipples and pubic hair and arrange them in sexual positions! I know I was very young with my first thoughts, it's good to hear that I wasn't the only one. It's funny how we think about certain things at a young age and think were weid or at least I did. It is a wonderful thing when we can relate to others.[:D]

Thank you whoever asked to have the 'born into it' category put up. Where my family was seemingly traditional 'man in charge' and I always said I would court my mate and marry them and be the housewife, I never really liked the idea (the things we do to appease our rents I tell you) I remember watching movies and always getting uberly turned on by the scenes where the hero got captured and tortured or god knows what else. I remember sitting through movies like that and squirming myself almost off the couch, even at a young age. Oh the barbies! I remember having two of the girls go at it once ;) (I had like 15 barbies) and of course the traditional, though it wasn't till after I got rid of them that I got into females being superior. Of course what also helped was this one 'caveman' type movie. I don't even know the name of it, but the guy goes around chosing his mate by groping them o.o and they showed this on public tv. I was shocked...and my gram almost had a fit [:D] My first 'experiences' were like someone else mentioned, friends tying each other up and seeing who could get out the quickest. I came up with some damned good knots, but they came apart too easy. While the others got out quickly, their knots were still intact, just loose, mine were all undone and I was holding up the string or whatever we used. Heh, long post from me. Enjoy!

i think for me the slooooow realization began at 7, when i fell in love with the gory world of opera... the melodrama was mesmerizing, and i spent way too many hours spinning fanciful plot lines for my gothic/medieval lego-set people to act out. (lego-girl here, never had barbies) something in me yearned to join the ranks of the swooning screaming ladies who were abused, tortured and killed for their loves, who willingly gave all they could sacrifice, who dared to bleed in flesh, in spirit and in beautiful beautiful heart-wrenching music.

When I was seven, my cousin was i er visiting. We were outside playing cowboys and indians. I "captured" her, and tied her to a tree. When I looked at her struggling, the whole game changed for me. I didn't know why I felt that, but just that I did. She cried when I refused to untie her. My mother heard her cries, and came out. I was punished, for doing it, but I never forgot it, either. I am a born protector and problem solver. But as to BDSM, that came when I struck out on my own, following college. Away from the influence of family, I learned that my mmm interest in always being the one in the post position was much more accepted in the D/s world than the rednecked vanilla one where I lived for my first 21 years. Laughing the next 21 years were much more enjoyable. And has continued to be so as time passes.Sundew

Greetings, i think that i'd kinda fall into the born to it category. Just because i remember thinking/dreaming (i used to keep things/imagery/fantasy in mind just before i fell asleep so that i would dream about it that night) about bondage especially at a very young age. But then perhaps the reason i say born into it aslo is because i don't seem to have the the ability to link specific memories to specific times of my youth as others seem to have. (i remember very few things from my childhood and they all kind of run together in a chronological stream) Guess my brother smacked my head on the ground one too many times! Well wishes

One is very early, five or six, when we lived in a townhouse complex and I insisted all boys and the two girls in my complex call me Queen. When I was a kid I saw a cartoon where some piglets were hiding in cubby holes in the wall, with just their asses sticking out, and a wolf came in and devoured them. I liked they way they had to submit to him. It seems to me that it was the first time I had thoughts about domination (This isn't to say that my fantasies involve actually devouring anyone...)
