As with so much loss of life in the American Cival War as Blacks and whites. Are still at each others throats, today well in some states anyway. So what im asking is was the American Cival War,worth fighting with the great loss of so many young people all those many years ago.

Ok i wasn't going to respond, because anything i say might not make sence. So, please forgive me if it isn't refrenced or anything. The Civil War sucked, because of the families it tore apart and the many we lost. But it did bring us to a point where we were reunited as a nation, and not so much "You stay over there, and we'll stay here and do our own thing."

I would be nieve in saying that it actually brought blacks freedom, since we all know it was far from that with racism. That thought process is going to take generations to truely find an end. But it did bring opportunities to a few blacks who wouldn't have gotten that chance earlier, and with that they were able to have a vioce....via education.

I would suggest that the Civil war a.k.a. war of northern aggression was not about black or white, slavery or freedom.  And as tragic as that loss of life was, it was definitely a war that was worth fighting.

Well, the folks at the time must have thought so? I do doubt though that any disagreement is worth quite so much suffering as ensues from war, whatever the time and place.

Though I detect from your post that you feel the war was about slavery? It wasnt - it was about the secession of the southern states from the union, because in changing times the economy of the entire US was becoming out of step with the economy of the south. This threatened the way of life in the south, the solution to which was thought to be secession, whereby their economy would not be affected by the very different conditions in the north. The southern economy was unviable, unless self contained. As it turned out, the southern economy was also unviable for the waging of war against a more modern economy.

The emancipation which followed the war was not the goal of the north, though it could be held to be part of the post war action of the union in getting the southern economy moving forwards by breaking the old ways of doing things. The goal of the north was to preserve the union, particularly as the union as a whole had paid for the Louisiana purchase and didnt want that investment going west, or south in this case, and also because the security implications of a large and hostile nation to the south were not exactly welcome; with the British to the north in Canada, and the Confederacy to the south, the remaining union could have been easily threatened with a war on two fronts.

Had modern Liberals been around at the time, Lincoln (a Republican) would have been the target of constant hate attacks, and one of their moronic chants might have been, "Lincoln lied, thousands died..."

Modern liberals are SUPPOSED to be CHAMPIONS of human rights and equal rights, YET you're right. What would they have done in the civil war??? They'd be beside them selves as to what to do.

the aftermath of the Civil War didn't really change the lives of Black people who remained in the South.  segregation in my opinion was the new type of "slavery" because it gave them limited freedom and rights however the right to vote, sit a lunch counter with other patrons and etc was the South's way of keeping the old traditions alive.

What still concerns me to this day is that much of the Cival war was fought with civet cats, using musk and powder---

not to mention the devastation wrought by the inhumane use of cannibals
