Buddy o mine is telling me this.

I was on the highway heading west. A dumb woman on her cell phone came around my right side and squeezed in between the car in front of me and me. I would say she had maybe 12 inches of space on both ends of his car and my car. She was one of those impatient drivers with, of course, a cell phone growing out of her skull. Now mind you, it was only 1 degree, snowing, very heavy rush hour traffic. She saw a break in the traffic and darted right and crossed 3 lanes of traffic. She went a little to far right and got into the berm where the snow was piled up from the plows, lost control and darted left taking out 3 cars and a full size pickup truck. bounced off the K-rails on the left darted right again taking out 3 more cars.

When she finally stopped, everyone around this accident was also stopped. She jumps out of her giant SUV STILL holding that damn cell phone to her ear. I saw the whole thing and not once did she take that phone from her ear. What a DITZY CHICK!

I've always held the opinion that if it's important enough to carry on a telephone conversation about, it's important enough to pull over. If this world were a perfect place everyone would agree with me about everything. Alas, imperfection.

Wonder why its always women? Presumably because all the sales reps etc that I drive up and down the motorway with, have good reasons to be on their phones.

It's not always women, I've seen plenty of blokes do it despite the fines. Have to admit bugs me slightly as well, seen as hands free cost so little these days.

I'm glad everyone is ok... that's scary, I don't know why that person would drive like that in good weather, never mind snow... that's insane!

The last time I got into a car accident (about 4 years ago), it was because some idiot guy missed his turn into a driveway, which was behind me. He took a right hand turn/sort of u-turn from the furthest left lane across 3 lanes of traffic... he was perpendicular to me as we colided... I could see the passenger door/his passenger staring at me... was the craziest thing I have ever seen in my life. Wasn't my fault, obviously...

This is why one of the reasons I so enjoy living in the city now and walking everywhere... I can have a cocktail, talk on my cell phone, and drive on my playstation "Crazy Taxi" game just fine

I think I know where she should have shoved that cell phone....I'm certain that would have made her more attentive. I've seen much of the same around here as well....I honestly can't think of anyone I need to talk to on the phone that bad.

It isn't the hand holding the phone that is the problem, it's the mental disconnect from the business of driving. I make calls while driving every day, and the people I call have become accustomed to me saying, "Hold on" and dropping the phone on the other seat for a minute. It depends on the nature of the conversation too. I pull over if it's detail oriented, or if I might need to write something down.

But since we can't ban idiots, let's go ahead and ban a behavior that is only sometimes idiotic.

I believe that we should all have to periodically take driving tests to keep our liscenses. Not that it would halt the stupid multi-tasking crap but then who knows, maybe they would forget and try to make a few phone calls while doing the driving part of the test.

For the love of....the myth of Mantopia will not go away lol. Give it up man. You won't find it, it's a myth....like the Loche Ness Monster, Bigfoot, or politicians that don't lie.

I'm tired of dodging people driving while on cell phones. Or maybe it's actually the cell phone driving the person...that would explain she never took it off even through the accident. It's the first step in computer domination of the world! Where's the shotgun?....do I need buck shot or will small game shot do the trick?...the phones are getting smaller.
