<Fast Reply to the OP>

Folks who complain about flogging a dead horse may be forgetting three things:

(a) The "Search" link for the fora is fairly subtle, so newbies may not think to see if a topic has been addressed already.

(b) New folks constantly join CM, and they may prefer to discuss a subject for themselves rather than simply read what others have said about it.

(c) There is always the option of simply ignoring a thread that strikes one as pointless.

I also have the offbeat theory that the strain of reading on screen--far less comfortable than on paper, imho--makes folks crankier than they would be in real life.

Hope this helps!

Maybe it's an attempt to get the OP's post count up???? LOL, cuz I can sure see all the dommes going to crowd around him with his sunny disposition. To each his own I say, and power to anyone that wants to post.  It takes a large degree of maturity to say
.Thank you, know let me go back and piss off some more of the overweight posters.

Nothing like trying to promote intelligent conversation.  I look at it like this, I have to have some modicum of respect for one to answer them at length, think they have a point they are genuinely trying to make and asking for viewpoints, or just generally give a rats ass about them to reply to them. An attention whore is just that, ignore them and they will go poke someone else eventually, tis the only way they feel good about themselves.  I have better things to do than mess with wannabe shit stirrers on a gorgeous Sunday.

Edited to add, the wannabe comment was directed to the OP and few select others not you.....

2 ways to look at it. Alot of people in BDSM have control issues. either liking to tie people up and gag them, or subs who top from the bottom. the other side is alot of people on here are gettin a little too feisty and need a good flogging, LMAO

Well, I like to dictate what people are talking about because it's fun...not really.  I agree.  I actually got an email from the moderators one day about not pulling out old posts bacause I wasn't contributing anything new to them. The one I pulled was discussed for a further 3 days after that.  Obviously people were not through discussing it and some of the new people had not been able to.  I bet if it was posted on again it would trigger more discussion.  What's wrong with that?

a submissive

If you got the "chance" to be thin good for you but it s not like that for everyone.

For my part, i'm a bit overweighted but even with the best diet on earth i would never look like a magazine picture, just because i m big boned and that i have swum for 10 years  (schoolarship competition.)

Why do you want to piss of some overweight posters?
Do you have a revenge to take on something?
Do you like to hurt people just for fun?
Do you really think that all the people who complained about the topic are overweighted?
Don't you know that just a little portion of overweighted people are that way because of their eating disorder?

I have been enjoying a thread above on why so many people in this lifestyle are overweight.
I have been lurking and posting on these boards for a long time and I have never seen so many people
reading or posting on a topic.
Now the usual complainers are starting to whine about beating a dead horse again.
If everyone on here is reading and posting, evidently we DO want to talk about.
Why do so many attempt to control what others post or want to write about on here.
If the topic does not interest you, why not do what most do?
Don't read it, don't post just to complain, move the hell on!

Good point......now can we talk about demons and pirates and stuff?

To answer the title of the thread: I think that it could be argued that anyone who starts any topic is attempting to dictate what people will talk about. If one is realistic in their expectations, the best they can 'hope' for is that the topic is of enough interest that it will stay within the scope the OP intended. I think an OP who partakes of their own topic, is thoughtful in consideration of the various responses, is serious and honest in their motives for starting the topic and doesn't feed into those who attempt to cause drama, there is much less likelyhood of a train wreck in the making.

Feeding into drama is only going to perpetuate more drama and being somewhat selective of what topics you start can go a long way to avoid additional curtain calls.

That said, there are some topics which are damn near impossible to control and most often seem to dissolve into train wreck status (which often gets them moved to Random Stupidity) but I have been pleasantly surprised on several occasions by the civility the forum posters have shown on some topics which would be considered 'hot' button topics.
