I'm impressed with the level of meanness in this post.   Why would you wish such misfortune on anyone for no reason except you act as if they stopped being humans because they were famous?    M

In my book at least, pop music is transient and of the moment, it forms part of the zeitgeist of the times and as such is better not regurgitated at a later date. These old bands from what one reads about them and having seen the odd one myself under duress, never have the energy which originally made them famous.

Just me maybe?[&o]

Hmm, you obviously didn't see Paul McCartney's last tour.  Or CSNY, either. Two of the most inspiring, energetic shows I've seen in my life.

Not sure they're considered "pop" but still.

I saw Aerosmith last year, and expected a tame tired show, and I was more than a little pleasantly disappointed.  It was wild, energetic, and sexy as hell...  I danced and screamed until I lost my voice.    M

They stopped being relevant musicians because they suck
They stopped being relevant to whom?
I just bought several old Sting CDs on ebay.

Relevant to the people in the Music Business more concerned with the Music, rather than the Business.

You know that Sting didn't get any money from your re-purchase of those used CDs?

e.g.: The Stones. Post "Some Girls" WTF have they done worthwhile?
I liked th Stones when Jagger was hot (about 20years ago), but I still don't wish 'em a painful death.

Neither do I.

The music BUSINESS will try to resell the same crap as often as possible
What's it to you if people buy the same old crap? I actually like the older crap over the new one. I haven't fallen in love with a new song in years.

Perhaps it's because the Music Business isn't presenting you with GOOD music?

Now, as a Nixon-Hater, the idea of Killing rock stars is disgusting, but they really shouldn't be allowed out on tour
Why not? If people want to see them, and are willing to pay, what could possibly be the harm?

They're being abused by their record companies. Ever read Steve Albini or Courtney Love's deconstruction of the finance involved. Here's quick summary. You make more money working at Taco Bell, than you do with a record company, BUT the record company makes MILLIONS off your product.

Hey, the CASINO 'N' CORNDOG circuit needs acts, too. And that's right were most of these acts belong.

I dont wanna talk
About all those old stars
'Cause its hurting me
And they're history
They've made all their songs
And their sell out concerts
Nothing more to say
No more tunes to play

Now Ebay takes them all
The prices rise and fall
There's no mystery
That's their destiny

The vinyl on my shelf
Always made me feel glad
I figured it made sense
etc

Lady Ellen, nice ryme!
You should be a song writer!

I will agree that the music industry is more interested in profit than quality.   My opinion is that Sting is quality though.
The other thing is that the music industry stays in business by selling, and if the people are only interested in junk, who am I to judge them for selling said junk.
The reason I bought CDs on ebay is because I'm a fan and they were reasonably priced, not necessarily because I felt I should try and help Sting out financially.

As for the Casinos and corndogs comment...  What can I say?   I suppose I should care and join you in tearing down the "common."   If your refined tastes don't mesh with what is being played or sold, simply don't buy, turn the channel or shut off the radio.   M

Okay, hugs MC. Now I am strapping headphones to your noggin with a never ending loop of really bad 70s pop. But not Abba cus they will never go out of style or need!
Ya luv me... right?

Agnetha's ass will never go out of fashion. If you have an ass like hers I'll listen to you all night too![:)]

Oh the thought of her ass getting old and droopy just makes me feel sad.[sm=noway.gif]

I see about 30-40 LIVE SHOWS a year, and listen pretty much to concert recordings of those shows, and guess what, they sell GOOD CD's at the merchandising table at the show.

AND the performers keep the proceeds ( excepting settlement obligations with the venue) of that merch. table...
