Status: offline 		I want to get my dog liscenced with the county, but he hasn't been liscenced for more than 7 years or so being out of my care for the entire time. If I do go in and get it done will there be fee's or legal trouble? I do have a pet tag for him, it says his name address mine and my number, which is what a county issued tag would say except you payed 15 bucks not 5.

Status: offline 		Typically not, though it might be wise to make an anonymous phone call asking about it first, or check the Web for animal regulations in your county.

The agency has no good way of knowing when you got this particular animal, nor the budget for keeping track of such things, so as far as they would know you are simply registering a new pet with the same name.  Which is what you can always say if there are issues.  This is a brand new adoptee dog that you are just now taking in, a rescued stray perhaps, and as a conscientious citizen you are doing everything you can right now to make him nice and legal. 

I'd expect you could simply tell the truth in most counties about the dog not being in your direct care for the last number of years, but I'd hate to tell you that in case your county has really weird and atypical laws.

Status: offline 		Where I live they give you thirty days to register a dog and then its like 5 bucks every month after that. They also have a whole month everyone has to reregister their dog. If the dog isnt registered then it is a 60.00 ticket the 1st time its picked up and then it doubles everythime after that. So, that is the reason that I dont have a dog and wont get one. You might want to call and ask about it before you go down there. If I were in your shoes I would shell the extra 5 a month because I wouldnt want the 60 dollar ticket or worst if the dog got picked up.
