antonentexq -> What is the difference between sub and slave? (2/14/2007 7:52:20 AM)

Good Morning Mistress(s),
With sincere heart wishing Your pleasure. i am very new to the scene and have not received any training as yet. In my little heart is the desire to live under the wing of a Mistress i can respect and admire. i long to be submissive to a Mistress, but a lot of fear comes up when i think of being a slave. Looking from  the outside in it would seem like being a submissive means giving my body and mind to someone under limits of still living in the vanilla world. Where as being a slave means commiting to surrendering every aspect of my being to my Mistress. i would like to thank You for setting me straite on this.
Sincerely
little bernie

For me it is that thesubmissive surenders up to a certin point but they are sort of on loan to the Dominant, they hold a few or many things back and get to dictate some of the relationship. A slave is owned and surenders everything to his or her Master. None is better than the other though, it is just a matter of preferance.

Stop worrying about applying a label to yourself since nobody can agree on what it means anyway.  Instead, reflect on what your needs and desires are and what you can bring to the table.  You can put whatever word you want on it as long as your needs and hers are communicated and agreed to.

porthuronsub -> RE: What is the difference between sub and slave? (2/14/2007 8:29:04 AM)

My Mistress and I talked for hours upon our first meeting about what we disired in the lifestyle.  We had many things in common, there are some she is holding back because she likes the element of surprise, but for the most part we had the same vision.  This is important.  She didn't apply a label to me, but I am totally submissive to her and her needs.  I wouldn't consider myself a slave though, to me a slave has absolutely no rights or possessions.  We are more like a couple that lives together in a non-vanilla way.
So what I think you need to do is to talk with the Domme you are interested in, let her know what you can bring to the relationship that would benefit her and see if you mesh.

Lorelei115 -> RE: What is the difference between sub and slave? (2/14/2007 9:50:52 AM)

Sub is three letters, slave is five. Beyond that its pretty much up to you to define what each means to you. This debate is apparently one that tends to spark a lot of controversy, and while I do wish we could all agree on simple definitions, I also recognize that we are human and language is an imperfect system of communication at best.

Subs are volunteers, Slaves are property.

I agree as well

bludemonn -> RE: What is the difference between sub and slave? (2/14/2007 2:58:54 PM)

I am not a slave for i cannot completley give in, so i would refer to myself as a sub, i would define for myself a slave who does as told totally with no desire to struggle but a sub will eventually give in succumbing to the passion of dominance more...clear as mud?

I am going to jump on board and say I agree with Bounty and Fargle!
To me, slavery is more of a total committment with less freedoms.
But many here create their own defintions and realities.
Good luck![:D]

One you get at Subway, the other is the extra hard drive on your PC.

thetammyjo -> RE: What is the difference between sub and slave? (2/15/2007 7:16:49 AM)

This is the difference as I see it and as I use the terms.

Submissive is submissive to another's will, usually a short term thing beause in reality a functioning human being must be able to make decisions and live life. Usually it is focused on erotic or SM or short-term mundane service.

Slave is someone who puts another's life above his own, focusing on making that other person's life the center of his own and working to ease that other's person mundane concerns, not just erotic or SM or anything like that. It is fulltime and hard, it is work, and it does not turn-off.

I do not include the concepts of safewords or limits in my definitions because I feel these reflect human realities.

asubmissiveheart -> RE: What is the difference between sub and slave? (2/15/2007 8:35:38 AM)

what tammjo said! Many claim there is no difference, but there is a difference.

MsKatHouston -> RE: What is the difference between sub and slave? (2/15/2007 8:43:20 AM)

I agree there is a difference.  However, most people can not agree on what those differences are.  Thus the zillions of posts on this very topic.

antonentexq -> RE: What is the difference between sub and slave? (2/17/2007 11:14:14 PM)

Thank All of You for raking over the coals one more time for the new kid.   Wishing nothing more than to carry my Mistress comfortable above myself and i need to understand these things. i admire each of You for Your wisdom and remain greatful.
