Status: offline 		Ok, this is way out there in left field compared to most of the posts here but hey, I'm really in the mood so here goes.

Way back when I was in college and a huge fan of Buffy the Vampire Slayer (cause I went to film school and it's a commonly known fact that ALL film school nerds love Buffy) I got turned on to "fanfic" especially the BDSM variety. I have rarely met anyone else in the scene who has this interest, though many people do agree that BtVS is an extremely kinky show to begin with, so I guess it's easy to take those themes and run with them.

I have been lacking in the reading material department lately (hence so much time spent on these boards!) and started looking back at some of my old favorites. Kinky erotica of the vampire variety and I'm not talking about Ann Rice. So I'm curious if anyone else is willing to admit to this guilty pleasure...and moreover, WHY ARE ALL THESE FANFIC AUTHORS SO PERVERTED??? I mean, it's a good thing because I love to read the stuff but it does strike my curiosity as to how much kink, S&M, and non-consensual sex there is in the world of fanfiction. It's as if people's minds are not capable of taking a character from a TV show or movie and creating original plots unless they include some character being raped or tortured. Again - not that I'm complaining.

Please tell me I'm not alone here. And yes, if you like to read about Hermione tying up and beating Harry Potter, you count as well. No "fandom" discrimination here, to BtVS and Angel are my only indulgences. You'd think I'd like Firefly porn too but I haven't found any that strikes my fancy.

Status: offline 		Ok..I'm usually a firm believer that one should keep their mouth shut so as not to remove all doubt that they're not too bright, but would you mind defining "fanfic",  "fandom" and "firefly porn".  (I also believe that if ya don't ask ya don't learn, and there's no such thing as a stupid question -- or so I've been told.)  I realize the terms probably have very simple and obvious definations, but darned if i can figure it out..lol.  i've read Ann Rice, and enjoyed her books, for a variety of reasons -- lol -- but can't put the terms you use into their context.

Status: offline 		Fan fiction is material written in the style of an author by an avid reader. The Man-Kzin Wars series are written in the Larry Niven designed known space but sent to him by readers who had ideas sparked by his books. Several of them have since become published in their own rights.

These days fanfic is usually done on the net. Stories based on Harry Potter are huge among the teen set.

Not sure about fandom but Firefly is another s/f tv show on cable which I don't get so haven't ever seen.

Of course, no problem. Glad you asked cause I was probably assuming too much.

Fanfic, short for Fan Fiction, is writing that's done by fans of a movie, tv show, or even pre-existing literary work, using the characters already established by the original work. To use an easy example, you know the NBC show "Will & Grace" ? Well, someone might write a story about Will and Grace falling in love and getting married and having kids. Or more likely, Will and some other man fucking their brains out while Grace stands over them with a whip. Shows like Buffy that are in the sort of sci-fi/fantasy genre tend to be the most common recipients of fanfic. Star Trek was a really early one, possibly the first time 2 "straight" characters (Kirk and Spock) were "slashed" (which means to turn them into raging homosexuals, hehe...)

Fandom just refers to the work in question. I.e. the Buffy fandom, the Harry Potter Fandom, the Star Trek fandom. Sometimes people "cross over" different fandoms but usually they stick to one and use only the characters that exist within that world. I think it's a mix of the word fan and kingdom but I'm really not sure.

Firefly porn just refers to another show called Firefly by the creator of Buffy and Angel. I was just saying that I should probably be inclined to enjoy smutty fanfic in the Firefly universe since I love that show as much as the other 2 by its creator, but for some reason I've never gotten into the firefly porn.

Status: offline 		Um.... guilty.  In fact, I "discovered" wiitwd from a fanfic about "Queer as Folk".  I read a fanfic about bdsm gone wrong and couldn't stop reading.  I emailed the author and viola! here I am 3 years later, collared to the Man of my dreams. 

(I also wrote a few fanfics, but no, I will NOT reveal my pen name there.  I've condemned myself enough already.)

As always this is only my experience, much as it shames me to admit it.

Actually it only aired on Fox briefly a few years ago. Now you can get it on DVD and I think other channels (FX maybe?) rerun old episodes but there are only 12 total so I'm not sure how that works. I highly recommend Firefly. Use netflix, buy the DVD set, get them from the library. It will be the most entertaining 504 minutes you've ever had.

Status: offline 		I'm not a huge fan of fanfic, mostly because so much of it is crappy.  And because if I'm going to read it, I want it to be either about really obscure characters, or completely out of character intentionally, because it's hard to write the characters as well as their original creators (no one writes Harry Potter as well as JK Rowling, that's just how it is).

I must confess, though, that I have much love for Snape/Hermione fic, esp. when Snape gets all Domly on Herimione's ass.  Teacher/student plus spankings and bondage and sex (and magical enemas!)?  Sign me up for the Hogwart's express! 

I too, love Buffy.  My best friend does too, but what's funny is that the scenes I find to be terrible hot (Spike and Buffy bringing down the house, anyone?), she generally is uncomfortable with (how a kinky slut like me wound up with a virginal Catholic girl as a best friend confuses me on a near daily basis). 

As to why there's so much damn kinky fanfic out there?  I got nothin'.

It was the fanfic that gave me my final push to come into the real world of bdsm. Don't be ashamed though, it's all perfectly natural :) I was actually lead to the fanfic after getting aroused by watching shows in which hot young men would be tortured. Yes, this was on network tv, folks.

Status: offline 		Ahhh, love the fanfic. Me- loisnclark, beautynbeast, ds9 mostly. I did watch Buffy a season or two, but got bored. So never read the fanfic. I have read some slash of Odo, was repulsive, and yet somehow a lil bit intriguing. Never came across any bdsm, tho the male characters were sensitive and the females were strong, independent types. Don't know how I would've reacted to it. Probably repulsed and horny. lol. I think I would just **love** to see Piper go sweetly Domme on Leo's whitelighter ass [maybe litterally too, heehee], esp. when he's off finding himself - again. On 'Charmed' that is.

Huge among the older set, too.     There's a very large contingent of adults who read and write Harry Potter fanfic... much of it very erotic.

Damnit guys, you've got to share. What if your stories are the kinky fix I've been looking for? I've also written some myself and would be glad to share. You'll just have to write me on the other side. Mine are up on a website or 2. Now that I know I'm not alone, I've got to share a link to my favorite story ever. If you are a hardcore fan of BtVS then you will appreciate this one because I really have never read a BDSM themed slash fiction that captures the characters as well as this one does. It's called "Behind Closed Doors" and is by Jane Davitt. Here is the link. I hope that it would be as enjoyable to everyone as it is to me but I think you might need to have some insight into the Buffyverse in order to really appreciate it. But either way, give it a try!

Status: offline 		I write guy on fanfiction. But so far it's all for video games, as tempted as I've occasionally been to try BtVS or other TV shows.

And I use this screen name for -everything-, so a smart person will figure out how to look up what I've written.

Some of my stories have kink, some don't, but most at at my LiveJournal lately.

Ahhh, well... while mine are very erotic, they aren't kinky... nor are they BTVS.   But if you've travelled much through the HP fansites where adult stories reside, you've more than likely come across mine.

Status: offline 		Aw...actually HP is not my fandom at all. Never even got into the original books. I know, I'm lame :(

Just to go back to what someone said earlier about most fanfic sucking, it's true. BUT there are a rare few authors who can do it not only as good, but often better than the original ones. Unfortunately finding them in the sea of muck is not fun. But that's why god invented masochists. Slave, go fetch me a good story.
