Dear porthuronsub, Ladies and Gentlemen; I agree to the envelope sealed with the key inside. When in earthquake prone areas, or natural disaster prone areas; it must be considered to all who are locked in a cage or such, to have a means to escape. In addition, after escape from the cage, there needs to be equipment ready and in reach from the cage, such as a flash light, water and a fully charged cell phone, clothing and shoes. In addition any caged person should have two exits for an escape out of the premise. I would have keys that have a glow in the dark fob/key chain to locate it in the dark, as to unlock the basement door or whatever floor you're on. I also must note that not all cages are open bars like a jail cell. I really do have concerns for those large dog crates/carriers that are extremely closed in. I wouldn't lock such a cage. I'd tape it shut and draw a design on it or use sealing wax often found on back of letters and stamped with a stamp (sealing wax stamp) --like a ring I wear. Most disasters are not earthquake but, fire. If memory serves me correctly and or if a fire fighter may read this thread, they can affirm the average time for fire to start and turn deadly. Carbon monoxide would be a nother concern. It only takes seconds before an entire home to be swallowed in fire. So, in addition to a key out of the cage, I would have a bag ready with clothes, flashlight, water, cell phone or whatever near the cage. No time to go hunting for things. Save your life. Just some thoughts. Respectfully submitted for consideration, Lady Hugs
