No. I'm not leaving. But what I am curious about is why so many people say that they are leaving instead of just doing it. If I leave CM, I leave...period. No grand announcement, no need for a speech, no drama. Clean and simple....poof...gone.

Any thoughts? (And yeah...this is a rant...kinda/sorta.)

I don't think it's a rant. I agree with you. There is no need to announce (over and over) that one is leaving. If you want to leave.... leave. If not, then learn to put up with the varying opinions and occasional insanity.

Edited because I flunked spelling

EmeraldSlave2 -> RE: Leaving The boards (3/14/2005 12:26:23 PM)

Its either a final foot stomp before the door closes, or a passive attempt at the "oh please don't go!"s to rally support for their view.

It's also the mark of someone who isn't sure about what they really want to do. From what I've seen 80% of the people who announce they will leave never to. 10% leave after hesitating but return again. 5% leave and return with a new name. And 5% actually leave and stay gone.

one word: EGO

I've been on many online forums, usenet groups and BBS's since the late 80s. This is a phenomenon I have witnessed countless times and expect to see again and again. I guess some do it as an attempt to elicit support (either "I don't blame ya" or "please don't go"). Some seem to do it as a further means of stirring up shit. Others are just simply more self-centered than others.

I'm with you, when I leave a site/forum/newsgroup then I just go, no parade needed... and I've done it several times for a variety of reasons. Nothing is static, nor is anything exactly how I want it to be - especially when it involves other people - but when I have had enough of whatever it is I've had enough of, or my time restraints demand I move on (more often the case) then it's nobody's business but mine IMO. Of course, the old adage applies: YMMV (and it probably does).

Please keep in mind that I am not pointing fingers at anyone in particular, just merely adding my opinon (need I a disclaimer??) based on nearly 20 years of observations online.

~Thorns,
We aren't announcing our leaving, but we think we've been kicked off for beth's post regarding the human form of a female dog. Don't know for sure, I only use computers I don't know what makes them work. But my business' "expert" says our ISP (?) address is banned at home. So before my office PC is locked out too, we posted to say goodbye in the Off Topic area.

It is ironic that this thread was posted just minutes before you made your thread.
Believe me, this is not directed at you folks.

sub4hire -> RE: Leaving The boards (3/14/2005 3:15:05 PM)

For the sympathy it brings them. Also for ego as 5 stated.
Popularity contest. Most lie about leaving though, as you've noticed.

Although I can't remember the group, the lyrics go something like this;

"I said go if you want to go, stay if you want to stay, I don't care if you hang around, I don't care if you run away."

Some folks bid farewell so the pals they've made here will know they won't be around. For example, GoddessJules and perverseangelic did that; otherwise we'd be wondering where they went. I've noticed perverse posting again, so I guess she got time to come back again. But anyway, those are examples of folks who would be missed and without the "I'm leaving" posts, we might end up with threads asking where they went.

However, the foot stampers who just want to post their tantrums before leaving are the ones who should just disappear because they wouldn't be missed at all.

Personally i prefer to have someone that is leaving give a reason for it. I hate it when i have made friends with someone and then they disappear with no explanation.

Of course... becauses there is such a difference?

Why post such on a board though? I left for a time, because I had things to attend to. Did I announce it on the message board? Nope. I left a few messages with people who I knew would appriciate a note and who would notice is I left. There are other ways of announcing departures or 'timeouts'.(add disclaimer here)

If I remember rightly, the forementioned didn't 'go' in such a sense, just choses not to participate on the boards, if I am wrong, I accept that... but maybe posting about people who may have no desire to be mentioned in such threads as these is your sort of thing. I find it highly amusing that what ' is ok for one, is not ok for another'... and blasting a person just because you don't agree with there ideals on other threads is the 'right' thing for an individual to do. It might raise an individuals spirits to try to humiliate someone else in such a way. However, most people here are not about belittling people and offering personal attacks, but posting individual thoughts.

usually there's no reason behind the things i do.

i do em cos its how i feel.

How does that go over with your dom? I know if I didn't have reasons for my behavior that the Owner felt justified with I'd be in a heap of crap.

And if I only did things because I felt like it, I'd REALLY be in trouble.

Not to mention holding down a steady job or schooling.

It also doesn't seem like a good way to live functionally long term, we have to have reasons for them, make investments, plan ahead. It's nice to go on feelings and just go with the flow, but that doesn't work when we're talking real life long-term issues.

I may be new to this group, but not new to the web.

I've been around for about as long and all I can say is "DITTO"

MsSilvie -> RE: Leaving The boards (3/23/2005 6:57:08 AM)

Other than the rare "I'm taking off for a while, I just wanted folks to know" sorts of posts, it's all attention getting and ego. And often times an attempt to make a rift in a group.

One Domme left an IRC channel I was Op for stamping her feet, saying she'll never be back..... so I banned her after she left.

Even I was impressed with the fireworks she had about that.

Hey, stomp off in a snit? Don't let the door hit your butt on the way out.

Yup :) Didnt' want to make an "I'm back" post to clutter up the boards. My schedule cooled down quite a bit, giving me more time for useless online pursuits.

I love it![:D]
Of course in my case, dominant women are too valuable to casually discard, but childish foot-stompers are still immature, whatever their gender, orientation or attractiveness. A little intelligence goes a long way!

Now honestly, would I allow myself to be dominated by an immature foot-stomper?

Maybe, depending on her cup-size.[sm=lol.gif]

SirKenin -> RE: Leaving The boards (3/24/2005 9:32:37 AM)

lol. It's almost funny to see that I'm not the only one that feels this way. In one forum I'm in there's over 100,000 members and you see this phenomena on a regular basis. It drives Me nuts. If you're going to go, just go. Chances are nobody cares unless they were a close friend on the board or something. I agree that they just want someone to blow sunshine up their ass. "Hi everybody, look at me". [:'(]
