As a teen I was an avid hunter. All the way to my earlt twenties.I had an uncle that was a game cop with the state so iI kind knew where all the best stands were. Then along came the military. Needless to say being hunted in the jungle puts a WHOLE new spin on hunting.I no longer hunt. But more power to those that do to feed thier families. I dont even have a problem with some poor guy poping an elk out of season to feed his kids.
What I DO have a problem with is the assholes that will go out and pop 10 cow elk and leave em in the field to rot.
But I'm just funny that way.

Amen...my problem is with the road hunters...people that pop out of their trucks shoot a deer in a field and speed away with it.  Last time I checked it's still illegal too.

Don't even use the word hunters when applying it to such low-lifes...They are simply POACHERS!!!....And everyone I know whether it be fishing or hunting takes pleasure in calling a game warden or your local DNR to make sure they get what they deserve.

Personally I'd take pleasure in sniping out their tires.  Wouldn't be a speedy getaway then.

Unless you are vegan, the animals you eat are treated far more cruelly than any animal killed by a hunter.

Cows are often still alive when they are butchered, male chickens are thrown into trash cans to die and the females have their beaks broken off and are stacked in cages so the ones on top shit on the ones below.

I don't hunt and I don't like venison. But I encourage my hunter friends to hunt my land if they get a doe permit. There are no wolves in NY to thin the herds, the deer population is rampant and as a result, in my county less than 100 miles from Manhattan the largest cause of automobile fatalities come from deer.

Either allow hunting to control population growth or reintroduce wolves. Unfortunately neither coyote nor mountain lion will take down deer, they prefer rabbit.

The coyotes here are pack hunters.  They can and do take down deer.  Usually the very young or old.  But I have seen them hunt a full grown buck.  Unfortunatley they also go after farm animals and pets as well.  I don't think we have wolves here.  If we do they're in too few numbers to make a dent.  I know I've never seen one here.

FukinTroll -> RE: Hunting in the modern age (2/16/2007 7:48:54 PM)

Coyotes are the big mean suckers here as well. They will take deer, cattle, and children.

HydroMaster -> RE: Hunting in the modern age (2/16/2007 8:14:46 PM)

Hey I just saw your profile for the first time...nice sword.

FukinTroll -> RE: Hunting in the modern age (2/16/2007 8:15:42 PM)

Thank ya! I have about a dozen others.

HydroMaster -> RE: Hunting in the modern age (2/16/2007 8:17:35 PM)

lol, haven't stop to count mine.  I do enjoy having sharp pointy objects around the house....makes the guest very uncomfortable :-)

Vendaval -> RE: Hunting in the modern age (2/16/2007 8:51:17 PM)

I would have checked 2 choices, both population control and
food, but was limited by the poll set-up, which only allowed
1 choice.  Those 2 reasons for hunting make sense to me.

Yeah but the options list was getting pretty hefty.  So I out the all inclusive other-explain.  Thanks for the input.

FukinTroll -> RE: Hunting in the modern age (2/16/2007 9:03:55 PM)

I gave my "other" reason already.

Ven did you get to se my new rapier?

domiguy -> RE: Hunting in the modern age (2/16/2007 9:41:18 PM)

Had the pleasure of watching a "lone" coyote try and take down a deer that was a little slowed down by the snow we had during December....It wasn't successful...Think I played a part in scaring it off (by mistake...got out of my car to watch...too close) It mangled the deer...Never would've believed it if I didn't see it.  Maybe the deer was sick...but it ran off...hopefully the coyote came back and finished the job.

I always knew that they were effective as a group....but this was just a lone coyote.

HydroMaster -> RE: Hunting in the modern age (2/16/2007 9:45:35 PM)

It may have been driving it toward the rest of the pack...or maybe it was just a loner. They are vicious bastards though so I wouldn't doubt it.  If it was winter the deer probably died anyway and the coyote may have just tracked it to wear it fell....hard to tell

dcnovice -> RE: Hunting in the modern age (2/16/2007 10:10:03 PM)

I've never hunted, and I'm not sure I understand its appeal. But then, I'm a city boy.

One benefit of hunting that seems to get overlooked is that, in this age of suburban sprawl, it gives people a stake in protecting wild spaces, and I think that's really important.

HydroMaster -> RE: Hunting in the modern age (2/16/2007 10:20:46 PM)

Good point, I didn't think of that.  I live in an area where the biggest city is about 25K people most places are under 5K.  So there isn't a lot of suburban anything.  The wilderness is usually only a couple of miles away in the most populated area.

FukinTroll -> RE: Hunting in the modern age (2/16/2007 10:25:58 PM)

Hee hee I live in the middle of the wilderness.

HydroMaster -> RE: Hunting in the modern age (2/16/2007 10:28:32 PM)

You been chasing the critters again troll?

Emperor1956 -> RE: Hunting in the modern age (2/16/2007 10:34:08 PM)

Hottiegurl, I am sorry for your loss.  I hope it is some consolation that he died doing something he loved.

E.

FukinTroll -> RE: Hunting in the modern age (2/16/2007 10:36:09 PM)
