I don't think I have misplaced my sex drive, but as I get older it has slowed down.
This is normal, on the flip side I enjoy so many other activites in this lifestyle, sex is
often not on the menu for me.

If this is you we are talking about, all the stress and things relate, if you are very active, one, have you been eating properly and two...what is your period like?  almost non exisistant?  you may also consider bananas among other things, because you are probably in need of potassium among some other things......

Well mine took off for a round the world trip without me lol. Before I got sick omg I was like a bunny yup, a bunny I tell you. Now it is more like a mayfly.
Ron, potassium boosts the libido? I may have to stock up on nanners then.

Just a thought...
One of the cool things about being a submissive is I don't really have to have a sex drive.  Its not about me.  I can still perform when that sort of thing is required of me, but I don't have to have an active drive.  I really like that.  Besides, if its not required, what good is it?  Is there any point to sitting around all dressed up with no where to go?

St John's wort doesn't work.
A doctor told me that you would have to take so much of it that it would make you sick before you had any positive results from it.

...was the doctor taking a large kick back from the pharmaceutical companies?

Not all natural remedies work for everyone. Unfortunately. It would be great to put the pharmaceutical folks out of business LOL.

After I had my son my sex drive went to hell. I do not know if it was viewing my body differently, the fact my marriage was on the rocks and stress related to that, hormonal changes, exhaustion... just pick on of the above!

I really got it back after I finished nursing which was about 4 months after my husband and I separated. You could be having hormonal changes, especially if you have drastically changed your lifestyle. If you are eating differently, sleeping differently, exercising a lot, these things can impact your hormones.. and it is really probably 95% hormonal, even our moods can impact our biochemistry.

... their sex drive?

Does anyone know about factors that come into play, that might make desire, just vanish, for months on end?

Is it possible that too much exercise (like running/swimming), can cause this? How about a diet very low in sugar?

Thanks for any help ...

Are you looking for causes or solutions?

A number of posts have already given a wide variety of causes (although I haven't seen anyone mention yet that having a partner that makes you totally hot does seem to help things) but if it's solutions you're looking for, there are a lot of homeopathic things you can try before resorting to medical care. If they don't work, that's still an option, of course.

My generic advice: Sex starts in the brain, stimulate that in whatever fashion normally works for you whether visual, auditory, scents, fantasy's etc. Touch yourself, get to know your body again. Make it a priority, actively involve 'you' in your sex life and see if doing so helps with your sex drive. Treat yourself to bubble baths in candle lit rooms, soft mood music, silk against your skin.. make it about the senses to bring out the sensual and then it's just a small jump over to the sexual. Like I said, a doctor or therapist is still an option.

I don't think sugar, specifically, has an impact on libedo.  Stress, emotional turmoil, and (a big one) a serious change of, or lack of, routine.

I've moved more times than most people visit the doctor.  Every time I move, I need two or three weeks to adjust to the new routines, before my natural sex drive returns to full strength.  When we have routine, our minds are permitted to idle more often, which leads to normal sexual fantasies (amongst other fantasies.)

Meeting new, and interesting people is also key, for me.  If I go a month or two without meeting someone new, I find my sex drive ebbs a bit.  I suppose people who watch TV regularly won't necessarily suffer this the same way.  So, the paradox, is 'some routine, and some breaks in routine.'

No idea about diet or exercise... i do not do either, never have.
As far as factors... to name just a couple (from a female perspective): bad choice of birth control and lack of 'use'(IE getting it on too far and few in between in episodes... rarely, not often etc..... not true for all, but it happens with some people).

Vendaval -> RE: Has Anyone Ever Misplaced ... (2/17/2007 6:19:34 PM)

I think that seeing a sports doctor and a nutritionist would be
the first step.  In addition, the stress levels of college students
fluctuate depending on their course load and a variety of other
factors, social, parental, etc.  It is possible that your exercise
and lack of sugar are both factors.  Any changes in your
menstral cycle?  You might want to take a look at this article.

(Scroll half-way down the page,
 ERMI = exercise-related menstrual irregularities)

"Female Athletes and Menstrual Irregularities"
by Elzi Volk

"Holistic Approach
Menstrual irregularities in female athletes are most likely induced by several integrated factors, which are presented above. Most likely, ERMI is caused by a feedback effect of changes in estrogen levels. The literature describes well that long term exercise alters sex steroid metabolism. Such alterations can be attributed to changes in metabolic clearance rate as influenced by diet constituents or medications. Alterations can also be provoked by changes in aromatization resulting from decreased body fat. Additionally, a diet low in fat or a diet low in calories may potentiate altered steroid levels and thus affect GnRH secretion."

When I work alot of overtime and have home things to take care on top of that and lack of sleep,  I sometimes have a decrease in drive. I just relax and it has always found its way back. [:D]

pahunkboy -> RE: Has Anyone Ever Misplaced ... (2/18/2007 8:12:08 AM)

Consider it from a biological perspective.

at 20 we are giving youth viger and stmina- and a sex drive. so as to propagate the species.

at 40 looks fade, as does stamina- the sex drive no longer serves to propagate the speices. it is more of a self expression sensory-

it is not a reflection on manhood or womanhood.  simply the process of life.

as we age we trade in youth for wisdom.

like it or not- time marches on. our gernation wants to be forever young. our culture worships youth and mocks the older folks! this is azz backwards!

i avoided many mistakes via learning from my elders. tho i also had to make some per my own terms.

-> on a persons deathbed- when life flashes before the eyes going in the tunnel. if isnt teh toys you owns, the hot chicks you banged, it isnt the wealth you horded. it is human to human score card- what you did to harm others- what you did to help others. what goes around comes around. kharma.

Yeah at 15-18 we are full of fire and brimstone, can go 10 or 12 times a day ever if for a moment.AT my age I enjoy the experience and have slow down a bit..IT does seem as tho after a woman has her family and the picket fence  and a ring on her finger she slows down a bit herself...smiles..
