My grandmothers and one of my aunts.  I think about them all the time when I feel overwhelmed and look to them for strength.

Both my grandmothers came over to the US when they were 16 as immigrants to live with their sisters after their mothers died and I often wonder how they did it, cause I can't imagine it.  They were basically sent away.  Then, my aunt always lived in a little apartment, which was absolutely spotless, raised two children, worked full time and still had christmas and thanksgiving dinners with like 30 people invited.  Its a humbling thought 'cause I don't get how she managed.

My granny, she taught me the traditional ways of our clan, herb and plant knowledge, a great deal of medicine such as setting broken bones to delivering a baby to easing the dying and their kin, who gave me faith in the higher things in life.

Sonny Barger, who taught me what keeping your word meant, what true brotherhood was about and to always be who and what i am.

Satyr, who put me on my first dirt bike and my first Harley thereby sparking a life long love affair of all things two wheeled.

Buzzard who patiently freed the slave within, who gave me back my will to live in a world that left me broken and ready to die.

My children and grandchildren who have taught me how to laugh and given me the eternal ability to see through the eyes of a child.

Jewel, she has given me smiles, patience and the chance to feel alive again when i thought my world was lost forever.

Scooter, who thought to replace my lost love and mend a broken heart but instead presented me with the most glorious new love, and restored my desire to serve, to be owned, to love back.

Even though my grandmother passed on when I was only 8 years old she had a very big impact on my life..She raised me from birth until she passed away and like they say, "the first five years of a child's life are the most important"..it is true. My late Master Ron also inspired me in life..had it not been for his love and guidance I don't know how I would have gotten through some of the most difficult times in my life...

lol seeks, quite funny that - inspired by Sylvestor Stallone and Jean Claude Van Damme.

I can't really add much to your list of inspiration although I will say the bit where Rocky is carrying logs around in the snow was a moment of real clarity.

my oldest UM who survived a traumatic accident almost 7yrs ago when she was hit by a train. here's a girl who would not give up even when the doctors said the odds were against her.

Daddy who's teaching me it's okay not being the "perfect" person i sometimes strive to be, to open my heart and learn to love again, and for being the nurturing father i wished i had when growing up.

My biggest inspiration and influence on me would be my father. He grew up #13 of 17 kids *GASP* in a coalmining town. A two room house with no electricity. He first worked a coal mine at the tender age of 6. Somehow he managed to put himself thru college & make the financial means to bring his entire family to a new state to live in.
He is the brightest man I have ever met & he has the ability to speak to both Royalty and maid without batting an eye.
My father is a twue Horatio Alger story come to life, I can't ever be the person he is but I try to be.

Gosh I wonder if he knows how I feel, I think I'm going to tell him today.
Thanks for this OP.

There are a number of people.  My paternal grandmother, who was a strong woman and the matriarch who held the family together.  My older sister, who was a strong source of support and inspiraton for me growing up, more so than my own parents.  The elderly lady who lived next door to me when I was growing up who always welcomed me into her home and looked out for me when no one else was around.  The Religious Science minister (who has since passed on) under whom I studied for three years.  We had plenty of differences of opinion while I served on the board of his church, but he touched my life and what I learned from him will stay with me forever.  John F. Kennedy, who happened to die on my birthday.  Some others are Gloria Steinem, Ann Richards, Jose Silva (founder of the Silva Method), Deepak Chopra, Wayne Dyer, Paramhansa Yogananda, Terri Cole-Whitaker, and Catherine Ponder.  I was also inspired by several great teachers I had who had a true passion for the subjects they taught and a gift for teaching.  This would include my high school Latin and English teachers, as well as my college Art History professor and a few of the business professors.

My friend Allan Daily. Who at the age of 12 had the courage to remove his hat when ordered to by the teacher in the class room even though Chemo Therapy had rendered him bald. He died the following summer from Leukemia.

Robert Nye, author of a book titled "Merlin" that to this day is the most profound book I have ever read.

Jesus, whether the Messiah, or just a good man, the things he went through for his beliefs are enough to inspire any person.

My parents, and grandparents and my greatgrandmother.

James Gillihan, a man who had met Kings, Presidents, Queens, the Dalai Lama, and world leaders all around the globe and yet spent time teaching me some very basic things along my journey.

That would have to have been my Tae Kwon Do instructors (35 years ago) Walt Bone and Richard Jinkins.

It's not so much a 'who' but rather a 'what' for me. A turn of a phrase, a quirky smile, an amazing attitude, laughter, a struggle which has been overcome and much more  .. and those things have come from friends, family and complete strangers.

My dad....who always made me get back up on the horse when I got thrown off.  No matter how many times you get thrown off, or how hard you land, or how much it hurts, you have to get right back up on that horse.
