Astrology isn't about concrete"qualities" it's about mutable tendencies. The older a person is, the more likely they are to have overcome their "bad" tendencies to some degree, and sometimes due to certain stimuli, this can happen at quite an early age, and sometimes with a complete reversion reaction, and often without the use of any astrological knowledge or know-how, or anything other than life. From what I can tell after reading here, few have any idea what signs they are most compatible with, and seeing a lot of gemini/pisces combos mentioned (a horrid pairing) one must wonder what books are being read. Youre best bet is to make sure your moon placings are compatible, since the moon rules the disposition. Several books I've read used the moons solely for compatibility prediction. The other thing to consider most is the element associated with the 2 signs. If you're a fire sign(Leo, Aries, Saggittarius), your best with air(Gemini, Aquarius, Libra) and vice versa. If youre water (Pisces, Cancer, Scorpio) you belong with earth (Virgo, Taurus, Capo) and vice versa, etc etc. These are general observations to be sure, and I've also learned that in day to day life, chinese astrology can be much more enlightening, especially compatibility-wise. The mention of being star-crossed (opposite on the astro-wheel) is the one very valid point I've seen made, and is usually the most potent compatibility one can hope to achieve, albeit quite difficult to do so, more often than not. It should be noted that elemental matchings are ALWAYS correct in this case. All the compatibility vectors I point at here are best suited for long term, whereas, a purely sexual compatibility isn't really more than merely trivial and superficial.
The main thing is, to just use it to know the tendencies of others earlier than you normally would, but not to stereotype or classify them, and if their tendencies dont follow the astrological pattern, perhaps give them credit for already overcoming it, or even transcending it..
