I think we're going to change goal here ... from an intro into American music, to just attempting to get NG out of total music dorkdom ... into almost anything that is part of the modern world.

This is a band from Sweden (officially) but they have an American and one of your countrymen.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hy1GTgB4tPM&mode=related&search=

One of your Manchester bands. So far, it hasn't struck my fancy, but just about every one of my friends is all over this band.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kJBcRFQe0Hs

All the way from Johannasburg, South Africa ... this is bad-ass, if you ask me.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ODc8bTMMTC0

And last, but certainly not least, from NYC ...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f8cw-bFpqyM

Now ... you will please be so kind as to give this stuff an honest listen ... maybe even more than once. If not, we may be forced to hold you down and shave your head.

edited to fix drunk typing ...

Reminds me of a song I listened to in my car today, The Vandals "Ive got an Ape Drape."

Sinergy

Vandals - Ive Got An Ape Drape Lyrics

Make it like that famous country singer
Or that guy I saw last night onJerry Springer

Clean me up but let me keep my edge,
In the day I
like to keep it dignified
But at night you know I got another side

And I don't give a damn, cause I am what I am
Even if it's really
really bad

I've got an Ape Drape, yes I do
They're givin' em to
anyone, and that means you
You can drive to Riverside and get one too

And then you'll have an Ape Drape like I do

Go ahead and buzz it'round the ears

I've been growin' that one braid back there for years

I've had it since the first time I saw Queensryche
The front may
conform to society
But the back says I have personality
Even if
it's really really, even if it's really really bad

Make it short infront and long in back!

If the top's not short enough that it stands up

I could be thrown out of the Bad Boy Club
But don't you lay a
finger on my pony tail
Now fix my kid so he looks just like me,

And then matching crazy pants are all we need
Some may call it child
abuse I just call it bonding with you Dad.

Here is a band some of you might enjoy listening to, it's very far from mainstream music

SirKenin -> RE: Some People Never Give Up (2/18/2007 10:27:03 PM)

Who the hell cares what he listens to?  Is there not enough of these retarded topics already?  If he wants to listen to some eccentric monkey music (or whatever it is he listens to, I have no idea) I would say that is his right and stop spamming up the boards with this nonsense of trying to get him to change.   Jeez.  If he wanted to change I am sure he would have started his own thread like he always does.

sensualmagirl -> RE: Some People Never Give Up (2/18/2007 10:32:00 PM)

Ummm... I'm not pointing fingers, and I don't know what the issues are... and I don't really care that much. However, well, I saw your post above and it reminded me that not too long ago, you started one yourself about music:

Just saying, I don't think it's just here on this thread.

You got it.  I did..  Because I wanted to broaden my horizon.  You got it.  That is the whole damn point.  When NG is damn good and ready to broaden his, I am sure he will make his voice heard as well.  He is quite proficient at that.

LOL,

The world is going to appreciate your style, if this is an example of it.

This droll and nebulous understatement is extremely endearing to me...

Yanno, I type 'LOL' sometimes, but it's rare for me to actually laugh out loud at the keyboard. I just did, coffee snorts and all.

caitlyn -> RE: Some People Never Give Up (2/19/2007 12:27:16 PM)

I'm bumping this for two reasons ... to make sure NG sees it, and to piss off random Canadians.

thompsonx -> RE: Some People Never Give Up (2/19/2007 1:25:44 PM)

caitlyn:
I am a fan of Johnny Cash but Dilana's interpretation of "Ring of Fire" adds a level of sensual eroticism to the song that leaves the original recognizable only by the words.
thanx

Not bad, but a touch on the American college rock side for my taste. The best of the lot.

A healthy spot of tooing and froing eh. The "we" is intriguing......are you bringing your maid with you? Any chance you can send me some pics of the pair of you rather than just turn up on my doorstep announced?

Returning the favour. British young 'uns.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BX1l3xLBI-8  Ignore the clowns brawling, top song.

caitlyn -> RE: Some People Never Give Up (2/19/2007 3:00:09 PM)

Well, I'm extending the music olive branch this time.

The first two are pretty good in my book. I've jammed The Rifles before, in all honesty.

Now, we get to the British Hooligans ... you've totally scored in my book, with that choice. I don't have to ignore the brawlers ... they fit the video. That will hit my play list, beyond doubt.

I'm sort of surprised you didn't like Yeah Yeah Yeah's. It may be a little dark for your tastes (it softens a little, once you realize they are singing about the MGM Grande hotel in Vegas), but the band is very good, and Karen O. is well past cool. I want all her outfits. They tour the UK ... don't miss them live.

Vendaval -> RE: Some People Never Give Up (2/19/2007 3:16:07 PM)

This is just like the TV programming rants you have SK.
If you don't like it, change the channel or read another thread.
And it is very arrogant of you to speak for NG, he is more than
capable of speaking for himself.
