the idiocy and cruelty of some does not mean an entire religion is awful. one of my bosses is muslim, as is his wife, and she and the women in her family are very religious and find a lot of meaning and peace in their religion. heck, even azar nafisi in "reading lolita in tehran" was able to separate the violations of her and her students' rights from the actual religion of islam, which many of her students and their families found to be important to them. i think it's funny that people who have never been muslim can hate it for atrocities that have never been committed against them, when women within the religion to whom these atrocities have been committed still find meaning and peace within the religion itself, while being able to separate their faith from the cruelty of their oppressors.
