I hope a mod will move this if it needs to be moved to a different forum. I wasn't sure where to post it.

Does anyone have experience with munches or other kinds of lower-key groups in northern New England (including Boston and the North Shore)? My orientation isn't heavy bdsm, but I would like a chance to meet some like-minded people, to talk and learn. I've done a Web search and found a couple of groups, but I have questions about them and would like to communicate with someone who has some experience. Thanks for any help.

Look up NELA and email leather by danny.  And there are regular fetish fleas to just throw yourself into and make tons of connections.

Thanks -- I've heard the ywere still going and then heard they weren't, and I wrote to them from their Web site and got no response, so I was wondering....

I'm not sure what "lower-key" and "not heavy BDSM" mean to you. For BDSM groups in New England, look up NELA (New England Leather Alliance) and NEDS (New England Dungeon Society). There is a Yahoo!group with a union calendar of many munches in New England (NEmunch_calendar). That list isn't always updated well, but you can email the organizers listed for a given munch to see whether it's still going on. I see that you're in Maine--you may be able to find munch groups closer than Boston that would suit you well.

There is a munch held in Lewiston on the 3rd Saturday each month at Fast Breaks starting at 4 pm. We average 50+ people a month, and it's a fun social event.
 
There are a couple other Southern Maine groups and active Yahoo email lists.
