"Wis. man’s good intentions die by the sword"
"He breaks into apartment, mistaking porn screams for actual rape"
Updated: 57 minutes ago

"OCONOMOWOC, Wis. - A man said he broke into an apartment with a cavalry sword because he thought he heard a woman being raped, but the sound actually was from a pornographic movie his upstairs neighbor was watching."

I've had the same porno for ten years and have yet to see the whole thing!!!

cjenny -> RE: "Wis. man's good intentions die by the sword" (2/22/2007 6:18:41 AM)

From this females perspective I would be happier to have a neighbor break in due to worry over my well being, than have a neighbor sip tea to the sounds of what he thought was a rape in action.
Shot??
Anyone remember that woman raped in NY while dozens of neighbors listened?
Better to be safe and embarrassed than raped. Just IMO.

If Kitty Genovese was packing a firearm, contrary to NYC's very restrictive laws, she would still be alive today.

We are ALL Kitty Genovese's neighbors, and the best way to protect someone is to ensure they can protect themselves.

Oh for petes sake farglebargle, not every one is interested in owning a gun. Nor should everyone own one.
Does that mean if you see someone that is being hurt you keep walking because they don't have a gun with which to defend themselves? If so thank the gods you aren't my neighbor.

BOUNTYHUNTER -> RE: "Wis. man's good intentions die by the sword" (2/22/2007 6:57:24 AM)

I agree the dumbfuck should at least had the hell beat out of him,WE would have loosed the hounds on him and if any of him left well there wouldn't have been any of him left..NOW don't get me wrong, I spent a weekend in jail in DC several summers ago for being a good citzen..A guy jerk the radio attenta off his truck and was beating his wife with it,,,Of course the southern gentleman in me just wouldn't put up with it..A weekend in jail and a 500 dollar fine for assult.YES it was worth it to stomp a mudhole in his ass..I am not a hero by any means ,I would expect the same from all of you if someone was beating one of my daughters or DIANE..What seems to be lost here is the asshole invaded a home, something in public is compleatly different..OF course as always just the views of this "ol" master...BH

No. Not if they're a woman. Men I *expect* to be able to defend themselves, and if they cannot, that's their own problem. Archaic perhaps, but there you are.

But then again, our children are taught from an early age of their responsibility for their own safety. Better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6.

sub4hire -> RE: "Wis. man's good intentions die by the sword" (2/22/2007 8:43:11 AM)

I'd be happy to have a neighbor who was that concerned about my welfare.

One man's nosy busybody, invading their privacy, is another person's Good Neighbor.

popeye1250 -> RE: "Wis. man's good intentions die by the sword" (2/22/2007 9:05:38 AM)

Question, why didn't he just ring the doorbell?

farglebargle -> RE: "Wis. man's good intentions die by the sword" (2/22/2007 9:18:26 AM)

The Voices in his head didn't tell him to ring the doorbell?

Either that, or he's just got some sort of issue. I'm thinking that the reject who lives with his mom, has a lot of other problems, among them, he likely has had a long time fear/distrust/paranoia about the heathen upstairs.

I'm just talking out my ass, of course, but Clinical Paranoia does make sense.

Al Franken pointed out in one of his books that the average length of time pay-per-view pornos are on
screen in hotel rooms is 12 minutes.

Said it was his favorite statistic of all time.

You mean if Kitty Genovese had a gun, and if she was able to pull it out of her purse, and if she was able to get the safety off under adrenalin, and if she was able to aim it correctly at the person attacking her with a knife, and if she was able to make the small motor movement (under adrenalin) of pulling the trigger, and if she shot the guy
she would be alive today.

If Kitty Genovese learned how to fight, with large motor movements and simple techniques, an assailant with a weapon, she might still be alive today.

On the other hand, fights are dynamic and scrappy and the outcome is uncertain.

Nothing worse than not being prepared.

As my 10th Grade Biology Teacher was fond of saying, "If you fail to prepare, prepare to fail."

I agree with this completely.

I generally go further and look at the plan I have and think "gee, what if that goes wrong?"  Nothing like a good set of nested backup plans.

Uhoh. Too bad he'll maybe never do that again. Maybe next time it will be real and not a movie, and the poor guy will be thinking: "Remember last time, when I burst through the door with my stupid sword and it was a porn flick?..."
