lacyann -> serving with spirit or soul? (3/19/2005 2:53:45 PM)

One of the directions given to this girl is to focus on how she serves with mind, heart, body and spirit or soul.

the first three are realatively easy. this girl would love some insight into how we submissives/slaves serve with our soul or spirit.

any ideas to share for discussion?
thanks [8|]

I have not served in a committed relationship so I can not offer any advice. But you might be interested in reading the February issue of the ezine "Simply Service". It has two articles which touch on spirituality in service.

Here is a snippet of the article titled "Living Authentically":

quote:

The answer is both simple and complex. The simple answer is that my freedom comes from living authentically. Authentically, i am a slave with a slave’s heart of service and devotion and gratitude. Authentically, i am a divine woman of love and beauty and grace, and in coming to know that woman, i come to know my True Self, and hence, continue to live authentically

And you also might enjoy the article "My Favorite Teacher":

quote:

And the last, the honor to be witness. That sums them all up for me. If I maintain the
state of mind that I am honored to have been invited to witness Master’s life I no longer
ease his way for his way is between him and his God. I no longer strive to derive my own
status at his expense nor do I dare to presume I know what success is. I am simply
attentive, flexible and ready to answer the call.

The link to that issue of "Simply Service is this here

But the link may not work unless you first join the email distribution list. Its a Yahoo group, but it is announcement only so you won't get swamped with mail or spam.

My perspective.

This has to come from deep within.

I was in a relationship once where I was very much in love with a female dominant. I felt so connected to her
that I didnt have to speak and I almost already knew what she was thinking. I think once love gets into the equation
you truly are serving with your soul/spirit.

Connection is everything. Its all about that cosmic energy beyond description.

My 2 pesos.

Best wishes.

For me it's not a big deal. My life isn't going to crumble because one day I'm insane with projects from work, my boyfriend is insane with grad school work, my family is insane with their issues and this one day my mind and soul is nowhere NEAR giving service.

But that's ok. I still serve.

If you're talking LONG TERM fulfillment, then if you are submissive, and this is a fulfilling situation for you, then you will develop to the point where all of the areas of YOU are fulfilled.

If you're talking day to day, hey NO ONE feels submissive all the time, NO ONE is focused on serving ALL the time. That's called real life. I'm always the Owners property, and I can always be in service, but who cares if one day my heart just isn't in it? This is long term.

Don't obsess, just be.

I think onceburned has the right idea- those are good quotes. In our relationship, we call this 'sincerity'. As EmeraldSlave points out, it's not possible always to have completely unity of mind, spirit and body, and one form of sincerity is to serve anyway, even when your mind or spirit are not aligned. Of course, this can also be the path of insincerity. To be sincere (in this context), is, I believe, to use your actions to bring your mind and spirit into alignment with your commitment. Not to simply go through the motions, but to use the motions to bring about renewed mindfulness. This can be a very difficult undertaking- no one succeeds at it all the time. It is intention coupled with effort that create sincerity.

This girl has written quite a bit about serving from this perspective in these boards. All any here can give advice or perspective on is themselves. Having said that, in this house your question plays out thusly; serving the house encompasses all that this girl is or does. What she is, would be much more akin definingly as a liege or servant...more closely related to a priest or knight of some sort than a bed wench. This girl beleives this to be her one true calling, serving this house. Your own particular Owner could mean any number of things since the word spirit and soul conjure up such varied concepts from religious to purely meaning serving with fire and passion. Especially in a 24/7 existence it becomes very easy for life as a slave/servant to become mundane, second nature...blase.....malaise can develop which can foster resentment which fosters hate etc....by framing your life in such a way that what you are to your house, is who you are spiritually you give your life meaning...and a meaningful life has much less chance of becoming mundane etc.

just this girl's two cents..

Greetings lacy

Serving with ones spirit and soul is very unique.
Connection.

The body can be given and can give.
The Mind can analyse and rationalize.
The heart can betray and be betrayed.

The spirit, the soul... needs a connnection to function without hindrance. It occurs when a unique bond is made. It cannot fool, or be fooled. Once your spirit feels, it will never loose that bond.

A spirit cannot be made to serve, nor stopped from doing so. It happens without intervention of the mind, body or heart. But they, cannot work to their full potential without the spirit/soul.

Very well said Angel.

I agree, the depth of my service directly correlates to the depth of the connection that I have with the person I am serving. Serving from my soul generally does not materialize until that connection deepens to the point that I am willing to surrender my "whole" self.

That being said, I also agree with EmeraldSlave. There are times when we just don't feel so submissive, even within the context of a deeply committed relationship. I have found that there have been those times over the course of my journey. It is then that I usually step back a bit and do some personal introspection and try to determine the root cause.

Sometimes I have found that it is due to an issue with the person I am committed to, but more often I have found that is it just an issue of having too many irons in the fire so to speak. Things like kids, work, family...basically life in general...sometimes get the best of us and when we are spreading ourselves a bit thin it is harder to give that 100% of ourselves. Generally though, a step back and some soul searching are usually a good way for me to refocus and get back on track.

what is your personal definition of soul or spirit?

perhaps you could seek out and ask questions of a nun in your area, preferably an older one who has served awhile. She is her "Master"'s beloved wife and servant and makes a full commitment to submit to His will and serve Him with everything she has. Her connection to her "Master" is primarily spiritual and every act is done with soulful purpose, regardless of it being an intimate prayer or an act of kindness to another.

I read a book last summer about the lives of nuns in modern America. And I was struck by the many parallels of religious life (and orders) with submission in D/s.

Yes, if you know a nun this might be interesting to explore. Of course, she might wonder if you are interested in the sisterhood. But it might be possible to phrase your questions so that they stay vanilla and secular.

THank You all for the great insight,
this girl still has a lot to learn and she is actively seeking knowledge and growth and every bit of information and every opinion she reads helps her move forward.
thanks

To me, serving with soul means you feel your commitment to the very core. It represents a bond that cannot be thought or reasoned out, it is just felt. It is indescribable, but when you feel it, you will know what it is.
