A Blast from the Past................
While chatting with someone stuck in a Hotel Room the subject of those old vibrating beds came up.  Does anyone know the mechanics of them?  How'd they wiggle, was it the frame or the mattress?

Founded in 1937 by Rapph Furber, The Fishbien Corp of Hoboken, NJ filed the first US patent for the "Magic Fingers," viberating massage system. After securing a contact with the Holiday Inn chain of Hotels, Furber initailly had a difficult time filling the orders for his new invention. Early electronic versions proved troublsome and costly, so in about 1948 the newer Magic Fingers units were powered my little midget people kicking the living hell out of the bottom in the bed.  At least thats how I think they worked.

Can you buy them publicly?  Or are they only sold in private to hotels and whatnot?  *grins*

Oh Man...that takes me back.  My parents travelled a lot when my brother and I were kids, and they always took us with them.  Many "roadside motels" had "Magic Fingers" beds.  They weren't just tacky places, but sort of the mid-60s Holiday Inn and Howard Johnson on the interstate places.  And we LOVED those beds.  Most were a mild, noisy buzz, but every once in a while you'd get one that was "Juiced" and it would just buzz you and your 4 year old little bro for 8 minutes of fun!

I believe it was accomplished by an assymetrical weight on the end of a rotating electric motor shaft, all bolted to the bed.

"They got a room service menu for food and drink / A porcelain throne and an aluminum sink
Two big pillows to rest my head / A Magic Fingers and a king-size bed / Put in a quarter / Turn out the light
Magic Fingers makes ya feel alright
Oh feel alright
Feel alright
Magic Fingers makes you feel alright
