I don't think it's necessary since Ds is really about honor and duty, things which the law can only be a poor substitute for. As a historian I feel that slavery being illegal and uncommon is quite an anomaly. But then I can also look around me and see that many people live in virtual states of slavery now -- to low paying jobs, to debts, to duty, to social and family expectations, to religious ideas, and so forth. Are these better forms of slavery because we pretend or suppose that they involve some choice by the persons thus enslaved? How free are any of us really given that we are raised in families and part of societies? From a personal prespective, I have no desire to marry a slave. I consider slave and husband to be two different roles.
