As our society redifines marriage, inlcuding same sex unions, I wonder how people would feel about Domme/slave marriage. I suppose we'd need a constitutional amendment but here goes.
When a Domme and a slave wish to marry, the new amendment would allow the slave to sign the marriage form agreeing to be the slave partner. It would allow the Domme complete control.
Of course the slave could sue for divorce. But the new law would allow the Domme to truly enjoy a willing slave in the legal since.
I know many old timers would object. But what do you all think?
Of course the slave would have to pledge to "love, honor and OBEY".

I don't think it's necessary since Ds is really about honor and duty, things which the law can only be a poor substitute for.

As a historian I feel that slavery being illegal and uncommon is quite an anomaly. But then I can also look around me and see that many people live in virtual states of slavery now -- to low paying jobs, to debts, to duty, to social and family expectations, to religious ideas, and so forth.

Are these better forms of slavery because we pretend or suppose that they involve some choice by the persons thus enslaved?

How free are any of us really given that we are raised in families and part of societies?

From a personal prespective, I have no desire to marry a slave. I consider slave and husband to be two different roles.

I can see a constitutional admendment being good for the sole purpose of protecting the Dom/me. As it stands right now the lifestyle butts heads with many laws, like holding someone against their will, battery and such.
That is the only plus that I can see, and that has less to do with "true" slavery than it does with the general lifestyle.

In most jurisdictions you cannot consent to your own bodily harm, injury, death etc for good reason.

These laws protect battered spouses and children... Just because they love the person hurting them and keep going back for more.....and more.....does not make assault and battery OK.

If consent became a defence, many men who bash women would be free to do so. This is not right. At some point we have to protect the vulnerable, even if they do not want to protect themselves.

I think we should leave the law alone and promote our own yardstick of "reasonable" behaviour : safe, sane and consensual.

Sure those terms are vague, but better than allowing full slather violence against those who give consent contrary to their own best interests.

You know that would be a good topic for a new thread. What type of headspace do battered women get in? You read alot about battered wife syndrome and hear that they go back for more and more and more.
You make some very valid points and you are right, some laws need to remain in effect for those unable or unwilling to protect themselves. I just hate reading about someone getting charged with battery because they were playing with their sub in a consentual manner.
