Indeed, it is. So is are the Union Jack and the Tricolor. For that matter, the Dutch and Russian flags are also red, white, and blue. In fact, the Peter the Great based the Russian flag on the Dutch one, by shifting the placement of the horizontal stripes.

Any particular reason for bringing this up, SC?

In the middle ages there were limited colour dyes, at least affordable ones and red and blue were affordable and white was just blank so many flags ended up being red white and blue.

Why the stars and stripes are white stars on blue backgrounds or red and white stripes for the original colonies god only knows, maybe it was still due to the colours available at a reasonable price.

I did this for a purpose.  I am curious to see how many flames I will get by making a truthful statement.  That is why I did this.

well it's kind of like saying the wind is made of moving air... it's true, but what does it really have to do with anything?

On the off-chance that someone coming to this thread might actually want to learn more about flags, let me point out the very handy Flags of the World site.

If you are going to burn the flag please wrap yourself in it first!....These colors don't run!....(all I could think of at the moment)  If you wanted to get flamed why not make a post of how you accept tributes?

I'm not sure how the colors came to be chosen, and there were some early variants that included blue stripes. Over the years, people have assigned different meanings to the colors, but the original legislation didn't specify particular meanings. The arrangement of the stars was also not specifed, though stripes eventually carried the day.

That seems like an awfully low-temperature flame, imho.

I'm more interested in the poles than the flags.

Well, since someone brought up polls, you all know that Donald Trump is being sued because he is flying his flag at 80 ft when the neighborhood requires it to be flown at 40 ft?

Interesting.

No, I hadn't heard that. I can see how that might shape up to be a nasty fight.

The last I heard was that the Palm Springs neighborhood this was in was fining him $20,000 plus per day.   He says he doesn't need a permit to fly a flag, and I tend to agree with it, but in a neighborhood like that, it would look a bit odd.
He will get out of it.
He can buy Palm Springs.

I thought it was because of the zoning/local ordinances that stipulated that a flag pole could only be 40ft tall.
Because it's the American flag, and Donald Trump, it's a media story.
I think most municipalities have regulations about such things.

People intentionally buy into certain communities because of their community standards... in other words they want to live in a place that is not zoned for livestock for example. Then there are others that buy in residential areas that dictate even what color house they may have, if they can park their RV or boat in the driveway, what landscaping they can have, and yes, even how people display Old Glory. If you do not like the community standards or zoning laws, either do not move there or prepare to try to convince your neighbors to relax their standards and vote what you want in... but do not whine about it and try to pass legislation about it.

I would not want to live somewhere that I had little freedom over my property in deciding what I want to do with it. I would not move to such an area and then bemoan how my freedom was being impinged upon... they have a right to have communities with unity and conformity.. it is all about freedom to choose where one lives

The wind is made by trees waving back and forth! Just look around every time it's windy and you will see that the tress are waving back and forth. I rest My case!
