In light of all the nastiness and carping going on around here, and specifically relating to the raft of posters who cannot speak in proper English sentences, I thought I'd start this thread.

Post a favorite unusual or odd English word.  Give its definition.  Use it in a sentence.  Be prepared to cite a source if "challenged" (sort of like Scrabble rules).

BATHYCOLPIAN:  Having a deep cleavage.

"AquaticSub is one of my favorite List personalities, and she is so bathycolpian."

"It's the same thing," he said.

Here is one of my favorites.  Please don’t ask me to cite a reference, it sprang into being with friends one night, long ago.        Sofarectalmacramation:  To have ones ass macramed to the couch, either by intoxication, or sheer laziness.

Tomfoolery: silly or foolish behavior

The tomfoolery of over zealous Dominants who ask if I'll leave my owner to serve them stupifies me.

I love that word 'cause my owner uses it all the time and it sounds so silly!

KERFUFFLE: Disturbance, flap, fuss

We had a wee kerfuffle on the "What's the difference between an overweight sub and an overweight slave?" thread.

Discombobulated: Thrown into a state of confusion.

I love that word, but strangely enough, combobulated is not a word.

EMBIGGER, verb, used in house remodeling or MRO in a building, embiggering is the process whereby the contractor or workman makes a hole in a wall or whatever, big enough to get through it what he needs to put through it.

I must weigh in on discombobulate. I am an exspert on discombobulate, and it's other forms.

DISCOMBOBULATE is a verb which means to take something apart. From the other post I gather that some have dcecided to use the term more colloquially, but I am pretty sure the intent of the word means a physical device or structure, not a situatuation. However, in English you can't bar such a usage, as I understand it.

RECOMBOBULATE is to put something back together. Simple enough right ?

Now we come to UNCONBOBULATE. Strangely, the word in this form is only properly used in the past tense, but not really. UNCOMBOBULATED is actually an adjective and describes an object not yet built or a device not yet assembled. If you are having a garage built, the pile of bricks in your yard is pretty much an UNCOMBOBULATED garage. Kapeesh ?

Now to get to the root of the matter, it follows that to COMBOBULATE is to put something together. It should then follow that COMBOB is a noun describing something that is together.

Any English teachers in here ? cause I am about at the end here. Think I'll go open a beer.

Have fun.

indecently, oops incidentally,

can KEFUFFLE be used as a noun ? I defer to the experts in charge of the matter.

I understand, don't get KERFUFFLED,
but what about

"Don't get into a KERFUFFLE about it" ?

It's a new one on me, that's why I ask.

Oh you will love this one if you all have not heard of it

merkin

"female pudenda," 1535, apparently a variant of malkin (q.v.) in its sense of "mop." Meaning "artificial vagina or 'counterfeit hair for a woman's privy parts' " is attested from 1617. According to "The Oxford Companion to the Body," the custom of wearing merkins dates from c.1450, was associated with prostitutes, and was to disguise either pubic hair shaved off to exterminate body lice or evidence of venereal disease.

I forgot to include it in a sentence.. silly me

She never left the house without her merkin because it could lead to embarassment if a wind blew her skirt up and exposed her baldness.

Muliebrity: the state of being a woman; womanhood; femininity.

Did you notice the increased muliebrity presence on the forums lately?

Yes, as a matter of fact I am noticing an increased muliebrity in many males on the planet. In RL and online.

Of course then we do not live in a physiostatic society.

PHYSIOSTATIC, adjective, describes a being that is not changing physiologically, or can be used to describe the environment or conditions that cause an organism to remain the same physiologically.

That might not be in any dictionary, but if you look at the word it figures. That's how the Germans are, they can make up a word and others understand it. Scientists make up words all the time.

Good thread.

Defenestrate- verb, to throw a person or object out of a window

Although still satisfying, it is seldom truly productive to defenestrate your boss if you work in a single-story building.

In the Uk i have never heard this word used as anything other than a mental state of confusion, taking apart.

Equanimity - my fave word at the moment meaning calmness of mind.

Equanimity escapes me most of the time.
