Some call them hand-trucks, but whatever it's called, it's what alot of people use when they need to move heavy appliances.

That cloth strapping that you crank down to hold the load is pretty strong. I have a quantity of it, maybe about ten feet total. Might be enough to make some sort of harness, one piece is quite long, about six feet or more. The rest is in smaller pieces.

I'm not going to cut it until I figure out exactly what to do with it, but when I do, how do I attach it ?

I don't have an industrial sewing machine and I don't want to use knots. I want a nice flat attachment method. Like if I found buckles the right size.

I own a dolly and I see that when they attach it they use a rivet, but there is like a fold at the end that makes the end traingular. I would prefer not to do that for comfort reasons. Two rows of rivets on the material flat might do it, but I was wondering if gorilla glue might even be better. Is gorilla glue waterproof ? Is glue even the way to go ?

Of course the pieces would get folded over and glued, there would be a ring or something at the end to which to attach, so this would kinda double the sheer mode strength of the glue. Or the rivets.

When they fold it over to rivet it, that keeps a cut edge from being exposed and fraying. I think it would create too much bulk.

Any rivets have their drawbacks, you really don't want them right on the skin unless they are the smooth kind. Pop rivets would never do, even with metal backing plates I think they would dig into the skin.

Now that I think of it I got even more, I think like fifteen feet at least.

So, fellow evil geniuses, got ny ideas ? We gotta stick together you know.

perhaps gorilla glue, clamp it together and let it set for 24+ hrs and then rivet with 2 rows.. or perhaprs hand stich the connection points with uphulstory (sorry..spelling) thread to doubly secure it. If you have a regular sewing machine, or access to one, they make special needles for material like heavy denim and leather. a light foot on the paddle and a little patience could do the trick. My favorite needle brand for heavy duty is schmetz. you can get them at joanns or any fabric or sewing store. I sew on leather and heavy denim alot and have never had a problem

hope this helps get the ideas flowing :)

when working with leather or nylon webbing to make harnesses, restraints, or other toys I have always used #9 copper rivets and burrs in conjunction with Barge cement.  For leather I punch the holes for the rivets with a rotary punch, and for the webbing I use a soldering iron with a tip that has the same shaft diameter as the rivets and melt a hole through the webbing.  Not entirely sure how you would open the hole in cloth webbing - maybe use a nail the same diameter as the rivets to spread the fabric and then lead the rivet through.  The rivet & glue combination is exceptionally strong, stronger that either the leather or webbing as I have tried loading each to failure and in both cases the material fails before the rivet/glue joining to hold a buckle or D ring.
Please let us know how you eventually join the pieces and the quality/your satisfaction with the results.
If you need a source for the rivets and the setting tool I recomment KYHORSE.com.

I second the suggestion to use rivets and glue both.  I've used gorilla glue alone on nylon strapping and while it held, I wasn't satisified that it would be strong enough.  I used rivets and after that it worked well.

Oh, another thing with the glue - it can seep through the cloth/nylon strapping and cause hard rough spots, you try to keep any joints or seems in places that won't have a lot of friction.

Mushroom or double cap rivets are smooth enough for the best of folks. We get ours wholesale but Tandy has large ones for the regular consumer. D-rings can be found there also.Make sure you get welded rings.

I do not suggest depending on glue entirely. It is am acceptable medium for 'basting' but I would not chance it to hold up for any suspension or rough play.

If the strapping is a poly blend then you can heat seal the ends to keep it from fraying. If the strapping is cotton you need to make sure that is in excellent condition: no snags, rot, snips or holes.

To seal the ends of cotton ropes I use tool dip (another great invention!) and it works real well.  I imagine you could use it on the cotton strap as well.

USe a flat head nail equal to the size of the rivet hole. Hear the head cherry red with a gas torch and press nail head where hole is wanted and burn through. Second method is to use hole punch as in leather working, use a cardboard backing against cloth and punch hole.
