Obviously on CollarMe or such sites, you initially meet via correspondence.

Are you ever surprised, when you move to phone, at the sound of the others voice?  Yes this now goes for male subs as well.

What sort of voice was it to you initally?
What did you expect to hear?
Were you pleasantly surprised or did the others voice have to grown on you?
Was it fast paced or slow?
Any other questions welcome.

lighthearted -> RE: the other's voice (3/2/2007 6:28:03 AM)

as one who responds very, very strongly to the sound of a man's voice, I would have to say I have been surprised many times by the sound.  (in fact, the very shallow part of me has been known to even ask beforehand if their voice is deep.  there isn't anything I'll say "no" to if they've got a deep voice [:D])  they affect me to the extent that I will generally be so nervous I have to listen to a voicemail first before working up the nerve to speak to actually speak on the phone.

like most physical traits, the difference between the perceived, the described and the actual can be huge.  nervousness can alter a person's voice, make them sound a bit higher pitched than they would ordinarily.  there's only been one instance where I've met someone in person, and had to say...that voice!  I can't live with that voice!

the flip side is, I can't stand the sound of my own voice.  although I've been told otherwise, I find myself to be a tad on the nasal side.  I've always wanted one of those husky, Lauren Bacall-type voices.  but, as I gave up smoking ages ago, guess it's not gonna happen.

windchymes -> RE: the other's voice (3/2/2007 6:54:19 AM)

I remember once, a few years back, that an emailing exchange moved to phone.  But as soon as he started talking to me, this really creepy feeling came over me, and I pretty much made some excuse and abruptly ended the call.  It wasn't his words or even the inflections, it was just "something" in the quality of his voice or whatever that just gave me a really bad feeling inside, like fear, like I have to get off here NOW!  I still can't explain it to this day.  Maybe my guardian angels were warning me of something!

It's never happened that way since, I've talked to many on the phone since then, and I've met people in real life whom I didn't click with, even though I clicked on the phone with them.  But never that uneasy fear that I felt with that one.

But, to the OP, oh yes, when a man has a "nice" voice, a little on the soft but deep side, it definitely makes me start smiling into the phone.  And then there's just something about a southern accent.....

CrazyC -> RE: the other's voice (3/2/2007 8:03:25 AM)

You can tell alot about a person by the way they talk. Unlike computer correspondence, you can here the uncertanty or over bearingness. There have been a couple of times when i will get to the phone, and realize it just won't work. That is only because i have a hard time obeying someone who sounds like they are uncertain of themselves.

LuckyAlbatross -> RE: the other's voice (3/2/2007 9:40:54 AM)

It really does depend on the particular accent- a lot of women say they swoon over a British accent- well there's actually quite a few different "British accents" and some of them are downright disturbing.

slaveish -> RE: the other's voice (3/2/2007 11:30:58 AM)

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh, one of the things I love most is Master's voice. It is indeed a Master's voice. It is deep and has a quality that reminds me of a purr (kind of a rough sound but extremely pleasant) and when He is being intent on my training, His voice is so quiet that I have to really pay attention.

When His voice is animated and conversational, it is a delightful thing. His tones express His moods beautifully and His accent plays a role in my adoration of Him. I wonder if I am merely reacting to my feelings for Him ... but ... no ... when I didn't know Him well, before I was His slave, I found His voice most pleasing.

yes i was. i suppose i wasn't expecting a calming and soothing voice when we had our first phone conversation. He told me this is how He talks to all of His patients yet i don't want to hear His angry voice.

it sound like a friendly voice with an Virginian accent and fatherly tone than talking to me like a Dom

don't know

no it didn't because hearing every day (when he has time between patients) made me feel more comfortable yet longing for Him to call when i'm having a rough day.
  i get so excited and giggly now  upon hearing "hello daughter" - oh boy, do i ever smile with the brighest smile on my face.

His voice!! what can i say?
The first time we spoke by phone He had me. That deep gentle voice, the sound of His incredibly sexy laugh. i was completely in lust lol. Luckily, when we met, the rest of Him was perfect for me too.
We have been together for over a year now and still nothing can make my knees turn to jelly faster than Him whsipering the name He gave to me. Yum

Quivver -> RE: the other's voice (3/2/2007 4:23:42 PM)

Voices!  I'm so glad you brought this up........
Voices can make or break the next step for me in a heart beat.
There is no accent I prefer nor do I need to hear a deep voice.
But tone and the caydence it's spoken with are what work.
I have lost interest over a voice that squicks me.

But to take this one step farther... I've found after speaking with
someone for months I do form a picture of them that can effect that
first face to face with the person I've seen them as, even if I have seen
a photo or two.  Sometimes I've been on the money, others times so far
off it wasnt funny.

Have you ever found a different person then the voice projected?

mstrjx -> RE: the other's voice (3/2/2007 5:01:25 PM)

Based on avatar alone, I find that some people have really been surprised that I sound just like a man!

(Of course, I am one.)

I never hesitate to speak to someone if that is what she wants.  Speaking on the phone is certainly much quicker and productive than chatting online, no matter how quickly and accurately I might type.

I try to keep my voice inflections neutral in an initial conversation.  I've been in radio, I have done some public speaking, and I've been a Dom/Master for 16 years.

Using my voice unfairly is one of the easiest things imaginable.  I sometimes warn (in chat) that speaking to me over the phone gives any advantage away.

Thank you Q
Actually, I saw the pic and when he called it was like "wow, the face and personality in written word just dont seem to fit the voice !"
I admit I was dealing with past experiences, shame on me.

petstorm -> RE: the other's voice (3/2/2007 8:50:09 PM)

Is it more the sound of their voice, or the tone in it?

Master has a very soft and conforting voice when we're just cuddling, or if i'm having a bad day. If i've made him upset, it has a very sharp edge to it. When he's completely dominating me, it's very commanding. And i respond to it all... because of the tones he uses.
