BOUNTYHUNTER -> RE: Does anybody know anything about Dowsing ? (3/3/2007 9:53:42 AM)

WE live here in the mountains of WVA and yes I have seen it done and have had someone try to teach me,ITS all in the feel..When one of this old mountain family wants a new well, they cut and apple rod and pick the spot before the rig comes in to drill and they haven't missed yet....bounty

The thing is, is that aquifers are pervasive in the ground, and you could drill thru solid rock and find a fissure with water in it, so it is not the abracadabra that it seems, I could pick any; ANY spot on this earth and start digging and drilling, and I will find water, how much is often the question, but go deeper and there are bigger veins. Throw water on a sponge, notice how it collects in the voids.......not horridly mystic at all. Some of those voids are larger than others, what should be amazing is that water know at all to go down.

This post turned out to be interesting. I thought it would fold after my first two post entries. I enjoyed hearing every bodys input, on the theory behind it. We even got two first time posters.

EG yup it was interesting. To me it was one of those hard to separate fact from fiction things. Admittedly having read about the BodyFarm using it gives it a modern-day credibility for me, not so much my uncle being a dowser... he also made moonshine & talked to chickens.

HydroMaster -> RE: Does anybody know anything about Dowsing ? (3/3/2007 12:14:30 PM)

I watched my granfather use it to find a spot to drill a well once...seemed to work but I've never tried it myself.  He used two pieces of a metal clothes hanger.

I have seen it done out in PA buy an older gentleman contractor and his 40- something excavator.

Always a skeptic, I was fascinated when he was looking for sewer lines and muttered to himself  (I forgot my 'witching' tools.)

He bent two old coat hangers and found the sewer lines with stunning accuracy, and could tell the differece between walking the over pipes and the underground cesspool.  His excavator took the tools and had similar success.

Naturally, the placement of the lines was re-verified though a little digging, but rahter than digging up the whole place, we were able to find were the digging should commence!

So how do you explain "U-P up?"

mnottertail -> RE: Does anybody know anything about Dowsing ? (3/3/2007 4:27:29 PM)

There are 7 (seven) reasons that could happen, stop by the house and I will fill you in.

ElectraGlide -> RE: Does anybody know anything about Dowsing ? (3/3/2007 5:08:03 PM)

Hey I want to try it. Not to find water though. I want to find old coins in places that do not allow metal detectors such as certain beaches. Maybe the water will mask the metal signals lol.

I would post on the subject, but I think my weird meter has already hit full capacity around here.

quietkitten -> RE: Does anybody know anything about Dowsing ? (3/3/2007 5:13:40 PM)

FukinTroll -> RE: Does anybody know anything about Dowsing ? (3/3/2007 5:14:49 PM)

Just a guess. But magic 8 ball is in agreement.

I think accomplished practicioners can tell thedifference, but I think you would need larger deposits of metal and/or a TON of experience!

I've never done it for water or treasure, but the two wires method has worked reliably to locate underground power lines before digging.  I scoffed, got handed the wires and shown how to hold them, now I'm a believer.  I couldn't keep them parallel if I tried.

ElectraGlide -> RE: Does anybody know anything about Dowsing ? (3/3/2007 5:19:48 PM)

I agree Fergus I would look like a wacko trying to find coins with a stick LMAO.

ElectraGlide -> RE: Does anybody know anything about Dowsing ? (3/3/2007 5:24:39 PM)

Speaking of lost coins, I am about to head over to Delaware Park Casino and loose some coins. Hell they dont even accept coins anymore. The slots take bills and give you a voucher to redeem at the cashier. I miss hearing the coins chinging in the tray.

fergus -> RE: Does anybody know anything about Dowsing ? (3/3/2007 5:30:49 PM)

Well, if you brought your dowsing sticks in there they would probably start vibrating like they had batteries in them.

Pretty weird stuff isn't it! When the guy showed me and a friend how to do it...every time he wasn't looking...me and my bud would look at each other and try to keep from laughing....UNTIL we took our try at the rods.....

Got my doubts about divining for coins....???? Might work but I've only done it for larger items.....

Don't tell anyone this (thank god for interenet anonyminity)....I shed hunt for antlers and once I tried the single rod and concentrated on antlers....hoping the rod would point towards the horn....no luck!!!! Hope nobody saw me out there in the woods walking around with a fuckin divining rod in my hand...lmao!
