JerseyKrissi72 -> Do You Take Herbs? (3/4/2007 4:39:07 AM)

     To help with my diabetes and to improve my immune system I take many herbs each day. I take blue green algae, bee pollen, flax seed oil, Noni, aloe vera capsules, alfalfa, cinnamon, dandelion root and a whole host of others. Every year, I get really sick with broncitis/ upper respiratory infections- atleast one a season but this year not one cold or flu[:D] I have cut out my soda almost completely now ( still have a diet pepsi once a week or so) and I drink only aloe vera juice, green tea w/ no sugar and water- my two cups of coffee i will never give up..and I feel like I am a kid again- high energy and spirits. Even dealing with the MRSA- it only took a few days for me to be feeling better again, kick the fever and back to my old self....They know me by name at GNC[:)]...Does anyone else find some goodness in herbs/ vitamin supplements?

Hi JK, I take- C, E, niacin, a multiple. C and E are scientifically proven to benefit body.

Biggest thing I do- is I chug cold drinking water, reverse osmoses, 90 oz a day. when you pee, your urine should be clear, dark urine means you are not drinking enuff water. flushes out the poi0sens.  the items you mentioned are fine- i on occassion take some of same.

Everyone should do a good colon clense 2x a year.

I particularly like red fresh peppers- [not the hot kind]  Snow snap peas too.

I am a huge believer in drinking- drinking water- chug it all day long.

Sometime suplement are flavor of the day.  and over priced. try not to pay for a pretty package- always check the main ingredients.

:-)

Your urine can have color to it, sometimes, that is the herbs and foods leaving our system..mine tends to be a very light yellow in color ( can't believe i'm talking about my pee lol ) but dark urine is not good, that can be a sign of kidney problems/ urinary tract infection- blood in the urine and you should see a doctor immediately if it is very dark.

I take suppliments but not as many as you do.  Just vitamins for the most part.  I belong to numerous websites so I get to read about all the new studies going on.  What has been proven to work versus dis-proven.
The current rage is cinnamon.
I agree with Roger, drink water then drink more water.

I use alot of herbs as well. Feverfew has helped with my migraines and all around health. I also use it on my face, it has calmed the redness alot. Also Red Clover has helped clear up my acme alot since I started using it. Milk thistle for cleaning my liver (plus GNC has this awesome 7 day cleaning system I do acouple times a year). Cranberry to stave off those pesky UTI's. Actually haven't had one since I started taking it about 2 years ago. Echinacea when I'm not feeling good (Call it natures antibotic). Stinging Nettles has helped my hair come in abit thicker since I had my gastric bypass.

Most I use in dried herb form when I can get it. If not I just go for capules if need be.

I take the basic multivitamin, C & E together, C, B Complex, flax seed meal, wheat germ and as much water as I can remember to drink. In summer it's much easier but I tend to get busy at work & forget to drink my water. I have to be careful of trying different herbs & supplements because of the different medications & illnesses that I have. Unfortunately remedies that work well on one illness or condition don't always react well with the others, so I need to be very careful on what I take. I just try to keep my fiber & water intake high & do the best with everything else.

I am on vit C and velarian or melatonin for when I cannot sleep. I have taken Biotin when stress was affecting my hair growth or lack there of. And of course, theres the glucosamine/condroitin which is an absolute godsend for me. My arthritis gets very bad, and with it being in my spine and hips, I just refuse to put my life on hold for it.  Tripleflex helps.

I had gastric bypass surgery about 4 years ago. I began to supplement because of that (mine is a mal-absorptive process). I also cut out about 95% of the caffeine (except what's in chocolate and the occasional caffeinated cup of tea) and all carbonation. I'm healthier now at 36 than I ever was at 26. I will have to supplement for the rest of my life...but, if I hadn't had the surgery, I'd have been on prescription meds for the rest of my life. I think it was a damned good trade.

Just multi-vitamin and melatonin....which has stopped working for me so I might as well cut it out.

I just love the taste of wheat germ in my cereals, oatmeal in the morning and sometimes on top of my yogurt, I didn't know it was that healthy...
