Has anyone other than me noticed the growing amount of confusion over that little (in reply to) thing in the corner of all our posts? When I started posting, no one ever paied attention to that, but lately people have been getting very odd about it. I know, personally, I use the quick reply window thing on the bottom, unless I am directly quoting someone. That automatically makes your entry in reply to the person directly above you when you write it.  Most of the time, I dont even really look to see who that is.

Is this something we might want to ask the forum gods to remove?  It has become enough of a problem to nearly derail conversations, people get insulted for no reason, and I know at least I have gotten PMs explaining someones position when they have thought I replied directly to them in a matter. Or can we just go back to ignoring the little autotag in the corner and just read the information contained in the posts.  If we are referenceing someone, we usually say so.

Not sure why this is on my mind this morning, I guess I am seeing it more and more often and it seems like a sily reason to get ruffled. But maybe its just me.
Anyone else have a take on this?

DV

Perhaps they could precede it by 'Not necessarily'.

I suppose that it are a lot of new people who make this error. They are unfamiliar with how a response works here.

People do get sensy.  I figure there is probably drama going on in their lives and they need a reason to lash out.

I have had a few attacks by people thinking I was writing about their response because I use the bottom of the screen to post when not quoting. I think it would be better to remove the part in question but I cannot say that it happens that often from everything I have read on the boards.

People will always find drama if they are searching for it and things like reading all the replies in a thread or being sure someone wrote in regards to you are things that can just get in the way for those looking for it.

This is why you will rarely see a post that does not directly quote the person I am responding to. Doing that eliminates any possibility of someone taking offense or misunderstanding what I am saying.
