Kalyndrah -> What is a Slave collar? (3/6/2007 3:19:32 PM)

While searching the lovely daycollar.com site for my new (!!!) collar, I ran across this delightful article that I thought I'd share since I didn't see it on here.  =)
It's not necessarly news, but it's still in a public forum and very relevant to us kinksters explained from a vanilla POV, I think.  Heck, I don't know.  Either way, the site does a wonderful job with this question.

Oh and there are TONS of actual citations and quotes and stuff like an essay or something.  Super spiffy!

That is a pretty good article for a psychologist. In the footnotes he points out the debate still going on in
the psychological community about whether or not BDSM is "deviant" or normal.

Hopefully someday BDSM will be considered normal by most psychologists and the idea of
BDSM being "deviant" will be a relic of the past.

Of course the "deviant" view of BDSM is not helped by the fictional media (books, plays, movies, television) which usually portray it as non-consensual.

It does have references but I was surprised to note that Charles Moser is not mentioned. He has been actively studying BDSM and trying to change the why mental health care professionals deal with it for well over a decade now that I know about.

*grins* Never said it was a full referential listing.  I just thought this was something I should share.  Psych takes an "oh my god" person and gently and calmly attempts to explain "us".

I was impressed.

*cackles and runs away.. or tries to and gets jerked on the end of her chain*  (just kidding... he lets me out to go to work LOL)

Problem is, there are those who will point at the few preditory bad apples in the BDSM community and say, "See, they're all that sick!" Same for gays, blacks, and us Injuns. Only takes one or two bad apples to set us all back a few decades.

I agree this is a very good article, I tagged it so that I can send it to any of my normal friends that know, or might learn about my enjoyment of the other alternative lifestyle.

Thanks for the post

Common problem no matter what group you choose.  Ethnicity, profession, location (West Va jokes are my faves!) and so on and so forth.  me personally, I tend to avoid masses and groups and .. stuff.  I make my own opinions and usually have TONS more fun that way.

I'm currently using the article to explain my new jewelry. LOL "Why do you wear the same necklace all the time, Kat?  Aaaaaand why does it have a LOCK on it!?"

So uh... Injun you say.  You have my heart going pittypatter... I love native americans.... if that is the injun type you be speakin' of... rrow!
